The crime in Shreveport is awful and anyone who tells you it isn't is lying for political reasons or they don't live here. There are people on facebook commenting that it "could have been a suicide" and "nobody needs to jump to conclusions." Nobody burns themselves alive in their own car.

Honestly, you'd prob. be safer in Iraq than Shreveport
Shreveport is like New Orleans. If you know the areas to avoid, you avoid them. Stay in southeast Shreveport and you are OK. It gets sketchy west of Line Avenue. I wouldn't give someone a ride anywhere no matter how they looked. Too many psychos today.

Something is fishy. The guy getting a ride has them transfer funds from separate accounts? The kids just leave their parents without questioning?
I'll wait for more info on this one.
Yeah, I'm now back to being mystified about what the real story is.

I had a great grandmother who lived in Cedar Grove in the early 90's... pretty shitty area but she refused to move because my great grandfather built the house in the 20's.

Sounds like a drug deal gone bad.

someone approached her father and step-mother outside Mall St. Vincent. The suspect used the couple’s cell phone to call a cab before they decided to give them a ride.
Had that happen to me at a mall and I said no you can't use my phone. It's a mall go find a phone inside. Never give rides to strangers. Sad this happened.

That's just asinine. You should look up FBI murder rates in northern cities

When I was a kid it was common to see a lot of folks hitchhiking and we rarely wouldn't pick them up. My dad had to hitchhike home from CA after WWII and he felt sorry for those who had to.
Today, you can't even feel safe stopping to assist anyone broke down on the side of the road and certainly to pick up a hitchhiker.
The world has indeed turned shitty.

Having spent time in both, I can't argue with that too much, depending on area.

I love how folks from Baton Rouge and Nola are shitting on Shreveport for crime.
ETA: There's been 41 homicides in Shreveport so far this year. When I lived there in 2010-12, the city averaged less than 20 a year. Crime really has shot up.

To be quite honest, I felt safer in Iraq than I do in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport. Atleast when I was in Iraq, I had body armor, ammo out the arse, and an Apache flying overhead.

When people ask me for a ride I start fricking with them. Saying weird shite. Then all of a sudden they don’t want a ride anymore.

"No, you can't use my phone. Do not come any closer."
