I have worked in secure forensic psychiatric settings. People like this guy should have been put away long ago like they used to be. Now they only get institutionalized once they've done something horrible like this. However, given his age being 21 it is not uncommon at all for severe psychotic illnesses to show up for the first time in early adulthood.

I will also say that I've worked in small private acute psychiatric facilities and you would be alarmed at the amount of people there are in the general population walking around among us that are like this a-hole. I've encountered plenty of people who have a look in their eyes that is beyond evil.

How does someone get to that point in their life?

I would guess it comes from stories like this being buried while other stories just like this with a couple of variables switched we would be spoon-fed nonstop. That's been explained probably 4-5 times already

It just seems like a miserable existence to focus on any of this stuff so much. Life doesn’t have to be a constant conflict of my side versus yours.

I guess I don’t see everything through a political lens, so I missed out on the fact that this was politically driven thread, but I guess that makes more sense than someone just being obsessed with sharing horrific stories.

In full agreement. You have to witness evil to be able to grok what *could* happen. I've seen some awful shite, but it makes me more aware of what I need to be prepared for on a city street.

In the movie "Patriots Day," for a movie example, you see those evil bastards put one of the pressure cookers directly behind children. Not at a police station, not in front of a liquor store, directly behind kids. And yet the a-hole that lived ended up on the cover of Rolling Stone.

You may not, but the media does. Which is the point he's making.

The affidavit says Banks admitted to police that he tried to intentionally hit the family. He told investigators that he had been receiving threats online telling him “he had to kill someone to save his family,” the affidavit says.

I’ll bet my last dollar this guy has a “history” of mental health issues. In years past, people like him would be institutionalized in insane asylums to protect society from them. But almost all of those have been closed. Now we just have them meet with a counselor every so often, pump them full of pills, which always have crazy effects themselves, and send them home where they can do shite like steal their daddy’s shotgun and wipe out an entire family because the voices said they had to.

It’s only been 160 years. Not a long time in the grand scheme of things. Still way too primal.

The fact 17 people downvoted this is why I’m in favor of poster profiles for this site.
