You're getting downvoted, but this is the truth.
Contracting a shitty job. For one, you deal with a ton of folks, many of whom are in trades because they literally can't do anything else. Then you deal with homeowners who think their project deserves attention even if it's bringing in 2% of the revenue for that month.
Two, you're a contractor. I'd imagine it's like telling people you're an auditor (believe me, I know personally here) or a car salesman. It doesn't strike up positive imagery.
Three, there aren't enough contractors. Meaning they get to dictate their time and when they show up. OP, honestly, your project is likely unimportant. You may need to pay more for a contractor who has stellar reviews and smaller client base. If you can afford that sort of thing.

You ever think to shoot him a text? Probably not the case, bit there's always the chance there was a legitimate emergency and you just aren't on his mind right now.
I have been late, it happens especially in BR. Traffic. Will get you every time and it's not easy trying to makeup time when there are multiple appointments. I'll usually call or text, but I can't always get to it for one reason or another. I also try not to give an exact time, I will give a window of time usually an hour or half hour.

My brother wanted to go cheap on a painting project. The genius he hired used a paint gun which is fine but painted the ceiling fans and thermostat. And the bathroom floors.

My biggest issue is they (like 90%) will leave garbage everywhere. They will throw their drink can on the ground right in front of you. I guarantee most houses have walls stuffed full of burrito wrappers and modelo cans.

I have been in both worlds.
I worked at a think tank and ran an insurance agency in my late 20’s-40, then sold the agency.
Now, I am daily involved with my hvac company and kitchen/remodeling showroom.
So, I’ve dealt with “educated” employees vs those who are “uneducated”, and to me, the MAIN difference is communication.
For example, my hvac co is small, and has 4 guys. Every Monday, we have a meeting at 8am. It’s on zoom most of the time. We talk about finances, marketing, successes/failures, bids, etc.
Without fricking fail, they are 5-15 min late. Every. Week. Most of the time no heads up. One guy, when I brought it up a year ago about being late to an appt with a wealthy customer, said, and I quote bc I’ll always remember, “his time is no more valuable than mine”. Yes, it is. And it’s simply courteous to communicate timeliness.
As far as the remodeling goes, I’ve been burned by like 9 diff subs. Found 4 I like. Ain’t letting them go hungry ever.

Trades are where all of the prior felons and drug addicts go as a last resort. No one with an average IQ would ever consider going into a profession that harbors those kinds of people.
