In my experience if a contractor ghosts you or doesn't call ahead about lateness or changing plans, it's because your job is about dead last on his priority list and he really doesn't give a shite if you drop him or not...they will absolutely bend over backwards and take care of business for the higher priced clients.
There's no good solution to this problem either, which is why I am a staunch DIYer. The people that have the best luck residentially have ties to businesses that use the same contractors. I don't have that unfortunately.

When I was a teenager my dad refused to pay anyone to do anything. He viewed as a teaching opportunity.
I learned so much that at 16, and electrical contractor hired me to do some carpentry around his office/shop. He was so impressed that he started sending me on electrical jobs, before knew it I was a full blown electrician, before I started college.

I don't have a lot a faith in them.
My auxiliary pump wouldn't come on for the pool cleaner. Thought the pump was dead. Called an electrician out and he said yeah, it is as well as the timer switch and he'd work up a quote to replace it all.
I turned off the breaker the next morning and went and checked it out. Turns out the main pump switch and the auxiliary pump switch were wired so the aux only comes on if the main pump turns on. I manually turned on the main and then the auxiliary, and it came on. Further, I had removed some vines earlier in the year from the box but didn't realize the switch motor was exposed. Some dead vines were obstructing the gears so it burned the motor out.
Long story short, I paid this guy $150 do not diagnose my problem correctly. It should have been obvious to a licensed electrician so I can only surmise he was drumming up extra work. Don't attribute to stupidity/incompetence what you can attribute malice or something like that.

Document everything in writing, and don’t sign a contract until you’ve had it reviewed by an attorney with construction contract experience.

What I’ve gathered and why I do things myself.
How does one expect these guys to be on time. We’re talking 3 different baby mammas, a parole officer, and other manufactured drama from a tattoo artist getting in the way? Don’t even have time to send a text. If I boot up my phone, my gf can start tracking my location at my other gf’s house. I’ll be there when I get there. Your time isn’t more important than mine. Plus a got an opportunity for a private hunt/fish. My trucks in the shop. Pay me.

Honestly man, I'm not sure why you think making 100k a year is complicated in the trades. And it's all about this conversation we're having here. Most guys just take too much on, or don't want to tell people no. Just show up and communicate.
