This is the part people are missing. We don't just get to spend this money elsewhere. This administration is worse than Jindal by a mile, which is astonishing

Exactly. The trust is taking the remainder of the money that was allocated for this project that hasnt been spent yet back to spend elsewhere. They can spend it how and where they see fit. They went through multiple options regarding location, method, and everything else and they chose this specific one. Not gonna argue the effectiveness or efficiency of the one they chose but they did base their decision on a multitude of scientific research and planning done by entities that study and plan these things for a living. Then they gifted the project to us and increased the budget and funding according to the increased costs as time went on. No chance that any major project is going to be awarded to Louisiana from that trust with that money for the remainder of the alloted usage. The 3 billion for this project was the largest and most expensive project awarded by the trust. Larger than anything awarded to any of the other gulf states. And our elected politicians shite on it.

have zero knowledge of the Diversion. Can anyone who knows more tell me if Nungesser is correct that the Diversion would basically destroying Barataria Bay, and that there are solutions - barrier islands, ridges and berms - that are ready to roll right now?

I view barataria bay like a salt water fish tank in my house. If we didn’t do a bunch of shite to allow salt water fish to live there, there wouldn’t be any f****** salt water fish living there. I am so sick of this “but muh dolphin” and “but oysters.”

We continue to lose coastline, for example, in southwest Louisiana rice farms are increasingly intruded by saltwater. It doesn’t take a scientist to realize we have a problem. But if we can’t stomach the thought of turning the environment back to fresh water, every few years when erosion makes a new salt water environment, we will never stop erosion.

The ACOE’s main mission is ensuring the navigability of the Mississippi River. Coastal restoration is NOT a priority for them. It’s a side activity, if that.

But hurricane protection construction projects are. You could argue that coastal restoration ties into that.

Just quoting this part for emphasis.

I can't believe he has the authority to just stop the whole project by himself.

the price tag has ballooned to more than $3 billion—and that doesn’t even begin to account for the long-term environmental and economic costs this project could impose on our communities.

Whats funny is... that 3 billion included EVERYTHING associated with the long-term environmental and economic costs this project would impose on our communities.

How can you underestimate by 1200%? Who did that estimate? Call them out. Embarrass them. Make sure they never do another study for any Louisiana project again.

Until this thread, I never heard anyone say $250 million. The first number I heard was 2.2 billion.

And the reason it grew to 3 billion was because the state did state things with delays etc,

Most politicians dont write their own letters but

This sounds like someone with an I.Q. of 75 and a 4th-grade education wrote it.

Well that’s Billy so maybe he did write it…

CPRA - which is obviously a state agency was put in charge of running the project. Once the money was figured out, CPRA was in charge of the project. Landry, as governor, has the authority (through CPRA) to shut the project down.

I had heard somewhere around 1 and a half billion early on. I thought it was around 2.2 then when it spiked up to 3 JBE told the trust that the state was not going to do it unless they covered the extra cost. They agreed to allocate all of the money then JBE agreed to the project. I'm guessing that the constant delays in that time frame caused it to jump in cost - probably a lot of factors in those delays - the state of LA one of those factors i'm sure. But JBE did make sure that Louisiana taxpayers were not on the hook for any of the cost - I will give him credit there.

Our illustrious governor is enjoying a nice trip to Aspen, Colorado currently. For all the shite this board rightfully gave The Destroya, no one is keeping tabs on our head honcho.

The Coastal restoration is now needed due to the shortsighted decision of the ACOE. Even if unintentional, it doesn't absolve them of the outcome.

Regardless, frick Landry.

They don’t care. They’ll just buy homes on the new shore and continue the cycle

Also, did two republicans just kill a project because….. Dolphins?

Actually….Louisiana does have a (freshwater) water quality standard for ammonia. Ask all the small municipalities in the middle of the state, it’s going to cost them bigly, unless DEQ figures out a way to walk that back.

You're right. I had edited my post prior to yours but forgot about it at first. I think the current freshwater ammonia criteria is here to stay.
