My kids are Texans. I am not and never will be, although I do love Texas and have lived here for 17 years. I'm a Louisianan.

Exactly same for me, just been here a bit longer.

people on here move to a texas city's suburb from river ranch or beau chene and act like it's a completely different way of life

This is true! The only major difference is slightly better infrastructure, better public parks (if you even use them), different demographics (more international influenced), private schools do not exist, slightly less crime, very few locally owned restaurants, everything is a chain.

People in the burbs are like 95% transplants from all over and you hardly have anything in common with them. They don’t like the same sports as you, they don’t like the same food as you. They don’t hunt or fish. They’re standoffish and won’t converse with neighbors. It’s weird.

I've lived here for 32 years, longer than I lived in Louisiana, and will never consider myself a Texan.

Our circle of friends in Texas are all from Louisiana. I’d say we’re more expats than Texans.

I’m not in Texas but I haven’t lived in Louisiana for 10+ years. I still consider myself a Louisianan living elsewhere.

I've lived in Texas a couple of times, but they knew I was from Louisiana.
Wonder what gave it away?

What's a "Texan" these days? How is it different than, say, an "Ohioan"?

Not sure if expat carries a negative connotation but honestly I think it’s the best way to describe most of us.

We come here for the economic opportunity, schools etc. if Louisiana offered the same exact situation, most of us would stay there.

If you’re born in Louisiana you’re a Louisianan.

No matter where you move to. However if you are born anywhere else and you move to and live in Texas then you are a Texan

American culture has turned the same everywhere. Brunch, strips malls, breweries, group workout classes. Maybe a wine bar or two.

I’d say the biggest benefit of Texas is economic opportunity. I find the government is still pretty shitty and not that much more efficient than dealing with Louisiana. Roads often suck. But your opportunity to make money here and move up the ladder is in a different stratosphere than Louisiana.

A Louisianian who resides in Texas but Texas is home.

All 3 children are Louisiana born but likely identity as Texan with the exception of our son - he has traveled the world and has a fondness for the culture and his legacy

I moved to Texas in the fall of 1991. Soon after a coworker said that the day you buy your cowboy boots is the day you adopt Texas as your home state. The next day my wife asked why are my cowboy boots in the garbage and my answer was so that nobody will ever think that I was a Texan even though I bought that pair years before in Baton Rouge. When people ask, where are you from? I always reply, I was born in Baton Rouge Louisiana, raised in Denham Springs Louisiana and live close to Ireland Texas. It is important to me that people know where I am from and not just where I presently live.
