This is just dumb. People in Louisiana wear cowboy boots just as much or more than Texas per capita.

Propaganda for decades and decades has people thinking Texas owns the boots and cowboy hats image because yuppies in Dallas/Houston wear it.

I was born in Texas but I've lived 50/50 in both states and I'm an LSU tiger.

Depends.

In Houston I’m the neighborhood westbanker boiling crawfish and making gumbo.

At the ranch I’m Texan billjamin shooting pigs and riding horses.

Hank Hill was born in the bathroom at Yankee Stadium and I’d say he is a Texan.

Texas doesn't even have a culture outside of west Texas these days. Just the worlds biggest sprawl of mcmansions, strip shopping centers, and 10 lane highways.

this is sort of true, but not entirely fair. west texas for sure has its own culture. east texas piney woods does too. houston, austin, dallas, san antonio have all kinda become the same though, which you are right about. the hill country used to have a very special and unique culture, but that is pretty much dead unless you get way, way out of town, and even then...it's nothing like it used to be. it's just gotten so crowded and full of people who arent even from texas.

anyways, to the OP's question - if you werent born in texas or didnt move there very, very young, you're not really a texan. just how it goes. i absolutely love south louisiana and the culture down here. but no matter how much i love crawfish, mardi gras, the swamp, the saints (meh), etc i'm never going to be a louisianan. i'm a texan that lives in south louisiana.

I am a Texan now. Still pull for LSU but it’s been 5 years and I have no desire to move back to La.

For sure. Life in the Woodlands is not wholly different than Mandeville.

I consider myself a Texan. I was born and raised in Louisiana (something I had no control over). I CHOOSE to live in Texas because it’s outright better in every single category. Of course most states could say the same when comparing themselves to La.

The taxes in the woodlands are the difference. I think the food in Mandeville is better also. Aside from that it’s the same.

45 mins to a major airport
Chain stores and restaurants
Suburban culture dominated by little league and phoniness.

I’d note that there’s way more of an international influence in the woodlands than Mandeville. Saudi, Spanish and European. Mandeville seems to be mostly white.

Mandeville has a large body of water separating us from the riffraff. the woodlands has no such protective barrier. ergo, mandeville > the woodlands

Nah the way they use land in Texas is wildly different than Louisiana and other states.

They’ll cut down 150 year oak trees and forests in a heartbeat to build vacant strip malls and gas stations in Texas. The architecture in Louisiana is vastly superior to Texas also. They build stuff junky and ugly in Texas. They don’t use the Acadian/nola style building like Louisiana.

Not to mention Mandeville is close to nice beaches. The Woodlands does have the pavilion that gets great concerts year round. That’s a big plus

It would be nice to be able to get to legit beaches in under 3 hours vs 8.5 hours.

No need.

In the suburbs? Lol. OK

very few locally owned restaurants

Tons of locally owned restaurants in the DFW, Houston, San Antonio and surrounding areas. Your comment is beyond incorrect.

everything is a chain.

Completely false

They don’t like the same sports as you

Completely false. Which sports are you referring to? Certainly not football, baseball, basketball or soccer. Don't be mad because they don't like your team. I flew our LSU flag proudly.

they don’t like the same food as you.

Who cares? Spread your wings. There is something for everyone. Note the large amount of locally owned restaurants mentioned above.

They don’t hunt or fish.

Who cares? Not everyone fishes and hunts in Louisiana....or any other state. That's your personal hobby.

We never had this issue. Are you sure you're actually likeable?

People still believe Texas is the land of ranches, open sky, and cowboys.

I question how many of them have seen the kind of “cowboy” hanging out in Houston, Austin, or Dallas these days.
