This is just dumb. People in Louisiana wear cowboy boots just as much or more than Texas per capita.
Propaganda for decades and decades has people thinking Texas owns the boots and cowboy hats image because yuppies in Dallas/Houston wear it.

this is sort of true, but not entirely fair. west texas for sure has its own culture. east texas piney woods does too. houston, austin, dallas, san antonio have all kinda become the same though, which you are right about. the hill country used to have a very special and unique culture, but that is pretty much dead unless you get way, way out of town, and even then...it's nothing like it used to be. it's just gotten so crowded and full of people who arent even from texas.
anyways, to the OP's question - if you werent born in texas or didnt move there very, very young, you're not really a texan. just how it goes. i absolutely love south louisiana and the culture down here. but no matter how much i love crawfish, mardi gras, the swamp, the saints (meh), etc i'm never going to be a louisianan. i'm a texan that lives in south louisiana.

I am a Texan now. Still pull for LSU but it’s been 5 years and I have no desire to move back to La.

I consider myself a Texan. I was born and raised in Louisiana (something I had no control over). I CHOOSE to live in Texas because it’s outright better in every single category. Of course most states could say the same when comparing themselves to La.

The taxes in the woodlands are the difference. I think the food in Mandeville is better also. Aside from that it’s the same.

Suburban culture dominated by little league and phoniness.
I’d note that there’s way more of an international influence in the woodlands than Mandeville. Saudi, Spanish and European. Mandeville seems to be mostly white.

Mandeville has a large body of water separating us from the riffraff. the woodlands has no such protective barrier. ergo, mandeville > the woodlands

Nah the way they use land in Texas is wildly different than Louisiana and other states.
They’ll cut down 150 year oak trees and forests in a heartbeat to build vacant strip malls and gas stations in Texas. The architecture in Louisiana is vastly superior to Texas also. They build stuff junky and ugly in Texas. They don’t use the Acadian/nola style building like Louisiana.

Not to mention Mandeville is close to nice beaches. The Woodlands does have the pavilion that gets great concerts year round. That’s a big plus
It would be nice to be able to get to legit beaches in under 3 hours vs 8.5 hours.

People still believe Texas is the land of ranches, open sky, and cowboys.
I question how many of them have seen the kind of “cowboy” hanging out in Houston, Austin, or Dallas these days.
