My wife (no pics) started teaching in Louisiana (high school) in 2003. Katrina hits and we move to Texas. She gets her teaching certificate transferred to Texas. All is well. She teaches high school in Texas.

While we are living in Texas, she goes to grad school to get a master's in educational leader, and passes a test to get a principal certification in Texas. She continues to be a teacher, but got it in case one day she decided to become a principal.

2012, we move back to Louisiana. she gets a job teaching high school in Louisiana. She contacts the state, and the state tells her that it would be "easier" for her to update her "old" LA teaching certificate, with the new courses/endoresements or whatever she got in Texas, then to transfer her Texas certificate back to LA. She says sure. Life is well.

Fast forward to 2018. She is starting to show some interest in becoming a principal, and goes and talks to her district's HR department. Apparently LA does not "honor" her Texas principal certificate. Apparently they never did. She needs to apply for a new one in LA. (This would have been the case even if she transferred her texas teaching cert). She meets all the requirements, except one... she has to take another qualification test... LA won't honor the Texas one. The test cost $425 plus study materials.

Moral of the story: Louisiana education system sucks and is full of bureaucratic crap.

So you’re bitching about a test that she had to take either way? Nice

I overheard two teachers yesterday in Baton Rouge plotting all kinds of nefarious administrative activities to get one of them a job. One of them even suggested it is all about who you know!

It's kind of true of many professions. Unless states note that they reciprocate with other states for requirements, you have to get up to date with that state's standards. True of doctors, nurses, lawyers, etc.

Tip of the iceberg. We (teachers and educators in LA) are all the Titanic.

Why should Louisiana be required to "honor" a professional license/certificate obtained in a different state?

Right? I have licenses in several states that each require some sort of testing, fees, and continuing ed in some cases

Yep, Louisiana is fricking stupid about certification.

BTW, the test is easy. I got my masters of Ed concentrating on SPED, and I passed the test with no trouble.

My state X-ray licenses isn’t good in almost all states. They require their own.

I would probably feel sorry for you if I hadn't had to take another bar exam when I moved back to Louisiana from North Carolina.
