Are bars open? Are restaurants allowed to operate at capacity? Are large gatherings such as sporting events and concerts allowed? Yes, you’re in some sort of lock down

Why is he going to ER?
How much does he weigh?

Give me one specific reason why we should not be allowed to go to phase 3.

Because the White House phase reopening guidelines call for 14 days of decreasing % positive. And LA has been following the guidelines very closely.

Kids catch it but so what.

Let's talk about this attitude for a moment.

Kids don't die from chicken pox or HPV or herpes simplex or mumps (that I'm aware of). However, unlike germs, viruses tend to live inside of a person for their entire life, and some of them re-emerge later with different symptoms.

For example, I had chicken pox as a child. It was a mild case. After about two weeks or so I was symptom free. What we now know due to the long term study of chicken pox is that this virus, although symptom free, continues to live inside of my body. In a few years I will need to start getting regular shingles shots because later in life this virus reactivates as shingles.

It used to be thought that HPV in men was irrelevant because they didn't have symptoms. What we now know from longer term study of the HPV virus is that it lives on and reemerges as an established cause of several different cancers.

We have no long term data about Covid. We do know that in some people, shortly after exposure, it attacks their respiratory system, brain, and other organs. We know that some people have mild symptoms and others have no symptoms. We know absolutely nothing about the long term course of the virus. We do know that it is common for viruses to live in our bodies for our entire lives and reemerge in different forms or at different times (like herpes simplex or HPV or chicken pox).

So anyone who says it doesn't matter if kids are infected obviously knows nothing about viruses, or is embracing a political (as in non-reality based) agenda.

It does matter. Exactly how or how much is entirely unknown.

So it is rational and necessary to do whatever simple measures we can do to impede the spread of infection now.

Most indicators seem to show it's somewhere in the 10-20% to slow this thing down under normal circumstances, likely a bit higher in densely populated areas.
Well where are we at % wise in this? lol

Right when the guidelines came out I called Trump a fricking idiot

Those guidelines are ridiculous and lead to so many ways for them not to ever be met

Why for this virus only? You mentioned already a host of other viruses, so shouldnt starting now, we continue this phased lockdown for eternity to get those virus infections down as well?

They don’t at all, unless there is massive numbers of negative tests coming from older than a month ago consistently skewing the daily numbers.

That could very well be it. Aren't the labs required to report positives first and foremost so the negatives can lag? Which if true is also frustrating considering we were making decisions on daily reports before numbers were adjusted

We do. For most of those other viruses we have vaccines which, in most cases, are required.

Now that you look at the data of their daily percent positive, dont you agree its bullshite and you owe us an apology?

Do you have an explanation as to why the numbers or different?

The explanation as to why they are different would prove if it is or isn't bullshite.

There is absolutely no evidence that covid can hide in cells forever and become chronic like some herpes and other viruses.

No corona type viruses do that as far as I know

Only 14,000 tests. 26,000 tests last Monday and 33,000 the week before. Does it mean anything or is this just a new two week cycle thing?

Different sorts of viruses. Not all HPV causes cancer. Not all HPV causes warts, genital or otherwise.

Kids are not without risk, but it is nowhere near what adults face.

Life is not without risk.

I can almost guarantee you that seasonal flu has killed more kids this year in the USA than has SARS 2.0. Once we've defeated SARS 2.0, shall we continue shutting down the world for half the year out of fear of flu?

Edit to add: And I wouldn't be surprised if suicides of kids outpaces SARS 2.0 deaths in the long-run.
