Number of positive test to date is irrelevant. We need to know how many active cases we have.

I agree.
I do know one person that was hospitalized and one that died. The person that was hospitalized was a 60+ year old woman that was near 300 pounds with diabetes and was a former smoker...her oxygen levels dropped for a few days and then she was released. The person that died was an 85 and in a nursing home...his wife had passed away a few years ago and i just don't think there was much fight left in him.

Plus, seatbelts have lots of empirical data to indicate that they are at least ~45% effective at reducing injuries.
How effective are masks and lockdowns and where is the empirical data to back it up?

We are looking at data. And one of the items is "death". Yes, it's human nature to be numb to data, especially data that you see every single day for months and months. You don't see the individual people, you don't read the details about their life or their loved ones left behind. You want to see a little emotion? Show an article about a car accident that killed someone, where it shows a picture of them, their name, their contributions to society, etc. I've seen it on this very site. The people here do show compassion and sadness about such things. You've seen it too and you know I'm right. But that's not the purpose of this daily thread (and you know it). So your expectation of compassion in a thread that is not focused mainly on COVID deaths is a farce. And you can take your snide attempt at a right wing insult and frick off.

I have not tracked the past positives decreasing but I know they do from the previous backlog dumps which will come in at a much lower positivity rate than all the days they cover (i.e. data dump of 30k tests with 6% rate spread out over days that all had 8%+ rate previously)

I've been keeping tabs on Arkansas metro active infections (statewide is useless because different metros are peaking at different times) That is probably the best indicator, outside of hospitalizations and deaths.

This makes sense based on what I’ve seen personally on the reporting side. Urgency is given to positives, understandably, so positivity rate can be reasonably assumed lower in late reporting.

I would agree with the idea that there are over 4k people who have died from the virus, and know zero of them.
