What a pompous statement.
All jobs are important.

If waitress doesn't have a job, can't pay bills. She can't buy shite. Her and her kids are on government dole.

People like you are so short-sighted it's astounding.

You’re wrongfully assuming I support shut-down.

That is almost unbelievable at this point, even though I find this thing to be majorly overblown.
I still know zero people personally either that have been hospitalized for covid-19

Only know 4 people now at this point that have had it

This makes sense based on what I’ve seen personally on the reporting side. Urgency is given to positives, understandably, so positivity rate can be reasonably assumed lower in late reporting

I still don't get it though - if the test is performed and it comes out positive or negative, the test is complete and shouldn't it be reported?

A certain facility was had patients there waiting for negative test results to be discharged. All kept coming back negative for weeks. Then instead of using that lab, they had to use a lab on the other side of the state.

Guess what...all came back negative and discharged aftee the first test at the new lab.

This China flu pumping has allowed me the extra cash to buy another rental property.

We know all of that. Some things we don’t get to make the choice of what is open so we follow the numbers. You don’t have to

Theoretically, and in a perfect world, yes. I find reporting just as frustrating as the next person, fwiw.

I support public sensibility while not writing off entire segments of the population. To date, the public has shown they clearly cannot be sensible.

Its not the governments job to force you to be sensible

At least that used to be true. Now it may not be.

At the end of the day, you know what approach would have shown to have the least negative economic effect and least death?

Leave the kids out there to get to 20 percent immunity while the at risk were quarantined. Then strict mask wearing and social distancing to have population immunity. Would have worked like a charm

JBE will be grasping at straws to find something negative to emphasize.

He already did the rare childhood disease, understaffed hospitals, high positivity rates and lack of testing.

Wonder what the next doom and gloom talking point will be that he pulls out of his arse. I’m guessing something about funeral homes and morticians.

It already started last night on the news stations he feeds data to report!

Now its the long term effects.

Have you not been on this board at all? 170k people are dead, and no one here gives a single frick. The US is still having 1k+ people die a day, and it’s doesn’t seem to matter at all to most of the people around here.

Where do you get these numbers?

The CDC does not support your case. In order for there to be 1k+ deaths a day, you would need to have over 7k in a week, which has not occurred since late May. And these totals represent the number of deaths in which COVID was present. It does not specify whether COVID was the cause.

You could very well be right, who knows? Personally, I cannot wrap my head around the logistical feasibility of this scenario where at risk populations are vying for the same goods and services and basic necessities as everyone else. It sounds great in theory, but is blocking certain populations any less intrusive or more constitutional than a blanket set of restrictions? And does it even work when everyone supplying those goods and services and basic necessities are all sick?

I get your arguments, I really do. I just don’t think they’re a birds eye view.

We need to know how many active cases we have.

Does Louisiana not keep track of that?

Yes and no. They randomly update the number of Presumed Recovered cases. But there is no historical trend, and you need to tie together a few charts to match their figures. As of today, ldh updated the figure to show 103,512 cases are presumed recovered. If you add the death total and subtract from total cases, it would show 26,554 active cases.

However, that presumed recovered was as of 8/10. When you look at the cases per day, it usually takes 22-24 days to get to the active number. Which the new CDC guideline indicates that you are presumed recovered 10 days after a positive test, and 24 hours fever free; implying whichever occurs later. Quick glace at that chart puts the total cases over the past 10 days at just over 8k. The number would need to be adjusted as back dated tests continue to get processed

Yes, as it affects a way smaller set of the population. The goal should be minimizing impacts, not making them hit everyone just because. Historians will look back at some of the responses to this virus and laugh.
