Again death rate is irrelevant. They have only been testing the worst. So asymptomatic and those with a little cough aren’t counted.

And the avg age of death is 72 in LA.

My dad was tested at urgent care in Mandeville last Thursday and it came back this Tuesday. So, 3-5 days seems about right.

I believe numbers tested only count for those that have a result

so that would mean 21,359 people have gotten their results back and 2,746 tested positive and 18,613 tested negative?

Im not saying you're wrong I honestly dont know

Honestly.. So what?

Is a 4% death rate among people who have serious enough symptoms to get tested supposed to be good?

That still puts us at 107 dead in Louisiana. A 3.9% death rate.

And that won't be close to accurate either. Adjusted fatalitiy rates can only be determined after a pandemic. Right now, we are using deaths on date X compared to cases on date X. The problem is those deaths are the result of an infection that occurred some time before date X and the only real way to look at that rate would be to look at the number of people who died of the infection compared to the amount of people infected at the time of infection.

And we are also not getting close to testing everyone who has it so it pulls the number in the other direction.

No. We know the mortality rate for older people is very high and concerning and why older people should be taking every precaution right now.

But running around claiming the virus has a 4% mortality rate is extremely disingenuous.

That was my understanding as of last week. Today's numbers are not total tests, they are only number tests which has already received a result.

Technically, but it's not like Vicente was going to die of heart failure anyway. COVID is absolutely the direct cause of death even if the virus technically causes pneumonia which causes a drop in oxination which causes heart failure.

I believe just like everyone else that many more people have it than have been tested. Probably to the tune of 10x. A 0.4-0.5% death rate is still extremely deadly when compared to swine flu or seasonal flu.

I’m not just going to blindly believe that 100x people have it because that’s what fits my narrative of this thing not being a big deal.

The numbers for Louisiana are concerning. The sample size is increasing and so is the associated death rate. Should not be the case with an increasing sample size.

18,883 is from commercial labs
Plus 2476 tests from state labs = 21359 completed tests
We do not know when those tests were taken nor do we know how many tests awaiting results there are

Why do you keep asking the same question?

No.

There were 3330 new test results confirmed yesterday.

441 were positives.

That is 13.2%

So people with underlying health problems die at a much higher rate than otherwise healthy people? Breaking news.

To try to get accurate numbers. That's all. You can't add test results from yesterday to any positive tests to get an accurate ratio. Just saying.
