2. they had major security/administration issues with the online testing

Knowing the state's IT security personnel I'd be shocked if they didn't have security concerns...if they were serious about it the LASC would have outsourced everything about the online test to a highly respected and proven private party.

ETA You are probably a good person to ask this....how does this effect the guys/gals that have jobs lined up assuming the test doesn't happen until 1Q of 2021?

Sucks for those that studied to be cancelled 12 days out but at least no new lawyers for the time being.

There are probably a fair number of recent grads who have been gambling on it being canceled.

Today must have felt like Christmas to them because they don't have to freak out and cram for the next 12 days.

As someone who is about to take the bar exam, no one wants to wear a mask for the entire exam. That would be extremely distracting.

Would you rather take it with a mask on or just have the whole thing cancelled?

Is there some kind of emergency 1 year license these people can get if they have a job lined up?

if it's a big firm, then it probably won't affect much. those kids don't go to court much and can do research/memos without being licensed

if it's a smaller firm, then...not well. i had to delay taking mine but wasn't paid hardly anything until i was licensed. if it's a non-litigation firm, i think they have a better chance of normalcy. small litigation firms? not good news

In Oklahoma, there is a petition going around for all 2020 JD graduates to be exempted from taking the test and granted admission to the bar. Just insanity.

They should waive admission.

Well...it was encouraging enough when we crushed livelihoods to stop COVID...but being proactive and stopping people from achieving what they've been working for at all is amazing!!! Steps like this should end COVID with the quickness

Good, those a-holes won't get to take a one-day abbreviated version of the exam anymore.

This. There's enough dummies practicing after taking the three day test. This would have been a nightmare.

Why can they not take the tests 6 feet apart?

Makes too much sense. Will never happen in todays world.

I’m going to argue against this being “less difficult”. It’s 7 50 minute exams in 1 day. No study days in between. You have to know all the material for a one day, 50 minute exam. No panic and recovery for 15 minutes when you open the exam. The advantage of studying old exams is out the window, as they will change the format of the questions to fit the 50 minute timeframe.

If you’re an attorney that suddenly can’t take the Louisiana bar this month, it’s not too late to sign up for the September California bar. Late registration runs through tomorrow.

Even lawyers need lawyers sometimes, baw. I am one too but you bet I hired a real estate attorney to handle the closing when I bought a house, because that's not my area.

I was coming to post the same thing.

I passed it last October, and a buddy of mine failed his. He might have to go a year and a half between attempts. Sucks.

Yep. Allowing them to take a one day, significantly scaled down exam, with the option for it to be an "open book" exam taken at home was absurd.

I still don't understand how they couldn't administer the normal exam in large venues (which aren't being used right now) at 4-5 different cities throughout the state to comply with social distancing mandates/concerns. I suspect though the test takers pissed and moaned about all of their "hardships" in preparing for the exam (which should have been easier than any other year since there was very little else to distract them). That initially got them the abbreviated exam. I also suspect that a significant number of current lawyers (who all had to take the normal exam) expressed their displeasure to the LASC and this is their way of responding to the current lawyers' complaints without have to admit as much.

There are some places where a diploma privilege has been implemented or is being pursued. Not sure if it would be a permanent thing or if you'd have to take it at some later time.
