A trust is a pain in the arse to set up. Just give me my money, my family and I will move and change our names.

Double blind trust owned by an LLC in an unassuming state. Its honestly pretty easy to be an unknown entity.

An acquaintance of mine in college had his parents win a 15 million dollar lottery his senior year. His parents set up a fund that paid him 35k per year ( the highest amount without being taxed at the time)He is doing fine and had a great start to his adult life.

What is his name?

Couldn’t you give your attorney POA (power of attorney) and have the attorney accept it for you? Your identity would be privileged.

The lottery departments handing out billions of dollars with nobody knowing who won to verify the lottery was legit. What could go wrong?

In Louisiana, you can claim the winnings under an LLC or trust.
That’s how you have to do it for a big jackpot.

If Lottery winners could remain anonymous the government would not even give out the money.

Knowing the winners was thought of as a way to make sure the lottery is on the up and up. If it’s anonymous then how do you know it’s not the lotto commissioner’s cousin.
To me, this is a real concern. Seems like a lot of fraud is potential with the anonymous route.
Even with the smaller jackpots, it seems very plausible to setup some relative to win and no one ,outside a few paid off commissioners would ever know.

why states like Louisiana do not allow the winner to remain anonymous
New to the state? How else would you find new targets to sue for absolutely no reason except if they got some money yesterday?

Just form a trust and let lawyers pick up the check

Set up a trust and go thru a lawyer firm.
That’s what I’d do but there would be obvious signs I’d won lol

There was one winner in a state that did not allow anonymity who used their lawyers to claim the prize. So the lawyer was made public but not the actual winners. Curious how that deal was brokered.
A winner in the Lafayette area did this a year or two ago. AFAIK the lawyer's name was the only one made public.
If nothing else you could always sell the ticket to a hedge fund.

Lottery winners can move. Dummies that register their LLCs to their home address, especially for contentious products like guns astound me. There are multiple businesses that show up on Bing Maps in my old hood, including gun dealers, that have their home addresses show up as their business address. Most of them seem to be in sub 75' lots, and I have zero idea why you wouldn't pay for a UPS Store "address" to keep people from showing up and kvetching to your wife about something you sold them.

Couldn’t you just buy online tickets from Georgia?
I think they have online purchases, and you can remain anonymous through Georgia.

Staying anonymous is easy just form private trust and make the trust the beneficiary of the winnings. Many many winners do this.

There are literally examples of lottery winners fighting for the right to have future lottery winners remain anonymous because there is no way to do that in some states.
It just seems that it's a common misconception that you just start an LLC, you remain anonymous no matter where you're located, and you're good to go. That's simply not true.
