re: Longest airport layover you've gone through? Did you sleep in the airport, or get a hotel?

Straight up layover non military, over night at Heathrow for 11 hours. Yeah I slept in the airport. I had an 8 hour layover in Istanbul but they had rooms you could rent by the hour and stayed in one for a few hours to get refreshed and take a nap. Military the longest layover was in Kuwait. It was about 13 hours. The longest I have been stuck was 3 days in Balad.

8 hours in Beijing. I walked to the farthest corner of the place, came upon a bunch of lazy boy recliners facing a tv, put a shirt over my eyes and slept for a couple of hours.

Had one that was originally supposed to be 5 hours and it turned into 13 hours.... was miserable but I got to know the bartender well enough and slept in a chair

Here in JFK after barely sleeping on the plane last night. The plane was the same temperature that I picture it is daily down in Louisiana . So I bought a day pass to the TWA hotel located at T5 to take a shower and a nap before heading back to the terminal in about 4 hrs

My longest was in London/Heathrow but we extended it a bit (going to and from South Africa) so that we had time to leave the airport and see some of the city. I think it was like 12 hours each way. The longest I have stayed in an airport for was 6 hours in Taiwan coming back from the Phillippines.

Right at 7 hours in Atlanta. And that was after a 6 or so hour flight from Bangkok to Seoul then a 15 hour flight from Seoul to Atlanta. My ex wife and I just found an empty area in a terminal so one of us could try to sleep while the other was watching my step daughter.
It sucked and was a very long day.

This past weekend we were stuck in Paris for 13 hours, then in Atlanta for 6. It took us 42 hours to complete a 16 or so (total travel time) hour trip.

Technically not a layover because my connecting flight got cancelled, but 24 hours in Denver.
Closing the jetway door as we came off our rerouted connecting flight, and refused to let us on.
Not a hobo, so I didn't sleep in the airport. Took the hotel voucher, woke up at 7AM, rented a car, drove to the mountains all day, flew out at 9PM that evening.

Also not a layover but flying on 9/11 as you can imagine was chaos…
A co-worker simply never returned their rental in CTL, dropped off 4 co-workers in different states on his way to his home outside Denver.

23 hours for our whole church group at JFK in NY. They gave us nothing. We slept in different terminals and luckily Swiss Air gave us a couple blankets.

Does sitting on the tarmac at BIAP waiting for a flight to Kuwait count? If so about 14 hours.
It was a civilian charter.

Overnight in Miami last year with wife and 5 year old. American kept pushing our flight back to New Orleans and finally cancelled sometime around 11pm. We booked another flight at 6am on another airline to Houston then Nola, and said frick American. It sucked but there was no point in trying to get a hotel. We were back in New Orleans by lunch.

Flying back from Australia...I had an option of a 10 hr layover in LA or an 18 hr layover in Honolulu....I chose Hawaii. Got in around midnight. Got a hotel room for that night.. Got 6..7 hrs of sleep then spent rest of the time seeing sites.... Also no real jet lag when i got back to the east coast

I like breaking up a trip involving huge circadian swings like that, if you have the time it saves a lot of wear and tear on your body

11 hours in Doha when waiting for a flight to Muscat.
Didn’t sleep, drank coffee. Somehow I beat jet lag.
