Longest airport layover you've gone through? Did you sleep in the airport, or get a hotel?
Posted by VermilionTiger on 6/29/22 at 9:20 pm

I remember I had an 8 hour layover from Seattle to Anchorage. Slept on a damn bench in the airport throughout the night. I talked a security guard into keeping watch and I would buy him some breakfast as payment
I was a poor who took a 2 month job in Deadhorse, Alaska for some quick tuition money, so I couldn't get a hotel in Seattle

7 hours in London Heathrow - flight to London delayed so missed my connection there. Landed at Heathrow at like 9am so just sat there jetlagged through breakfast and lunch.
Was part of a 24 hour journey which ended up taking around 36 hours...

My 70 year old mom just spent over 24 hours in Washington airport. I hate airlines.

Something like 18 hours in denver. I wanted to get on the next possible flight asap so I stayed at the airport. Rode the train around. Napped on benches. Most boring time of my life.

Slept on the ground at Grand Rapids, MI airport trying to fly to Chicago. Last flight out and it was cancelled due to ice storm. Couldn't rent a car bc of ice. No option. Sucked.

Went 28 hours. Not a layover. A cancelation. I went back to my girlfriends house and had a few more rounds.

I've got 6 hours tonight/tomorrow morning at JFK after a red-eye. I've done a 20 hr layover in Seoul South Korea before and that was awesome. The Seoul airport allowed for free tours around the city as long as you were connecting, had a great time exploring Korea

American unfortunately. Cancelled my layover flight due to weather and refused to offer hotel or food vouchers. Didn't show much remorse and I sat in the airport bored all night.
The next morning they have us board plane and then delay us again. At that point it felt like things might get ugly.

I’ve flown 300 or more times. (20 plus trips per year for 15 years)
I’ve yet to have to stay overnight in an airport or even get a hotel room because an airline made me overnight in an intermediate airport.
I have gotten to my destinations way late several times.

Had a 7 hr layover in San Francisco on my way home from New Zealand. Slept in a random gate that wasn’t being used. Left NZ at 7pm on Jan 27th and landed in SF 10am Jan 27th, got to live that day twice.

overnight in Newark. I'll be goddamned if I sleep in an airport. I got a room.

8 hours in Dubai during the night so just stayed in the airport and tried to get some sleep until we were woken up by a Muslim prayer/chant blaring over the airport intercom

Right as I was graduating college, I flew out for a job interview between final exams. Supposedly was supposed to be there for two hours and had a final at 8:00 AM the next day. Instead it was for 13 fricking hours due to one hell of a thunderstorm.
I was in the DFW Airport at midnight before taking off. I could have literally driven back there more quickly with a rental car and was actively considering it that day. Only got 3 hours of sleep at my parents' place that was halfway between the Memphis airport and Oxford. Thank God I passed, but man, that fricking sucked. Such bull shite.

12 hours in Dallas the Night LSU beat OU. Should have been home to watch the game. Very large bar tab thanks to Joe.
10 hour in Philly but we took the train to Mid City and hit up Victory Brewery and the Franklin Institute Museum to see Big Ben.

US Air out of Vegas - we boarded the plane and something went wrong so we went back to gate. The next plane arrived at the gate, but the flight crew was passed their allowable time - next crew had to drive in from about an hour away - then we boarded again and something else went wrong on the aircraft.
This was all about 12 hours - they had another plane, but I told them to put us up in a hotel for the night - it was 11 P.M at this point. They accommodated us - so in total it was over 24 hours.

Rookie numbers to be bragging about. Some do that in less than two years.

Not a layover but a super long delay. Had a 6 PM flight out of Denver, and the wind speeds were apparently too dangerous to take off in (at least that's what we were told by the gate agent) and we didn't take off until 1 AM
