1% is a lot when you are already being taxed into poverty. How about the people in charge of the tax revenue and where it goes be a little more efficient with what they are already getting?
With that being said, no more taxes, I will always vote no.

This is also overstated if you’re trying to compare to 12 month or private sector jobs. Most get at least 2 weeks of PTO, and several federal holidays off.

You are exactly right - 2 weeks vacation, 2 days at Thanksgiving, 1 day at Christmas (plus 1 day New Years, Memorial Day, Labor Day) doesn't even come close to 4 plus months off

The state told me that all all of the proceeds from the casinos would be fixing Louisiana's education problems when it passed many years ago. Where did that money go?
They just moved it around. Casino dollars just replaced what was already being funded. If 100 million was budgeted before casino revenue, then when 100 million in casino revenue came in they could budget 110 million for education and spend 90 million of 100 million originally budgeted elsewhere while still not saying they did not cut the education budget.

I voted no. The problem a lot of people had with this tax is the surplus in the budget that currently exists. Around $69 million after all expenses. The LPSB can reallocate tax monies already collected and pay teachers a higher rate. The other issue that people had was the way they went about with this ballot. This isn’t the first time the school board called an election in an off season cycle to try and get this passed. Put it on a major ballot with presidential or representative ballots-it will overwhelmingly fail. The anger from teachers and their families over this failed ballot should not be directed to the nays-but the people running the school board.

but why can't the parish re-balance their budget to provide this 1%?
They can but they tried to pass it down to taxpayers. Luckily the citizens let their voices be heard. This tells you about the corruption of the LP school board and the parish as a whole.

I say if you can’t beat them it may be time to join them, with starting pay for teachers reaching near 50k a year and a few more state enhancements coming soon, I can retire in 20 years, and collect part of the social security I have already earned. Plus summers off, 5 weeks vacation during the school year. And depending on the school district, a decent low cost insurance plan.
Lol. Try it. The schools will happily welcome it. Keep in mind that $50k salary is a college degreed position as well, so it’s not just some bloke off the street.

When are we going to stop with the mindset that people with a degree are somehow superior to those who chose a career that didn’t require them to get one and go thousands into debt.
Sounds like the bloke off the street is the smart one. No debt and doesn’t have to depend on tax payers to vote yes for him to get a raise.

Better check that, they will rob you of your social security, they call that double dipping.

That is why I said part of my social security. You can still be eligible for some of it if you continue to pay Social Security taxes such as getting a side part time job. There are efforts to end this windfall elimination penalty that social security has implemented since the 1980’s.
You are also talking about 2040’s for me which means social security will be nearing insolvency and cutting benefits. Government retirement benefits are getting better, but are still dependent on the market and their investments. There are still complications on that depending on when those funds start to see an explosion in payees and not enough payers into that system.
One thing I learned since I had a parent who had a school retirement plan, do you remember Al Gore’s lockbox idea? Well with a school retirement plan in Louisiana unless this has changed all the fund that you and your district paid in including gains over time is yours. You collect a determined benefit amount per month based on years, age, and salary. When you retire those monthly benefits are deducted from the funds and gains paid in. If you pass soon after retirement and there are still unpaid benefits, your heirs can collect the remaining amount of contributions paid into the retirement system. It doesn’t just disappear like social security. One trade off is cost of living adjustments. They can be few and far between in Louisiana and there is a bill to make some changes to that, but it will still limit to about 2 percent. While SS gave an 8% increase last year.

This is where I am. Idc if it's for baby Jesus, no more taxes. It never stops, there is no end. Learn to use what you have more efficiently. Ask us to help you budget and cut. We could easily lower taxes if they got some regular folks looking at the numbers. Run it like a business.

Few years ago they said they wanted to give teachers a few thousand dollar raise. We passed the tax. The school board gave teacher like $200 bucks and gave themselves a raise with the money. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
If you are talking about LP this is a 100% lie. Complete falsehood.

Apparently you have done zero research on this. There may be some surpluses that are either allocated or required by law. You can’t just go about reallocating money how you want to. These funds are given for designated purposes. LP is 64/68 on per student spending but still remains in or near the top ten. This isn’t EBR throwing money at a turd situation, this is rewarding teachers and trying to attract new talent. Unfortunately for LP the nays won. This will cause teacher shortages in the near future.

Isn’t their budget approved publicly? Aren’t the board meetings open forum for the public? I’m sure they would welcome your insight.

Yep, money is directly correlated with performance and learning. Oh, wait...
Care harder with your own wallet, not with everyone else's.

Too many contractors and employees in EBRP that will turnout to vote in a low turnout election.
Low turnout elections are great elections to pass less popular taxes.
