If they just added the 3% into the cost, nobody would notice or say a word.

I would say the big talk in Watson this week is the death of it's greatest resident

Most do this or charge the 4% to the customer.

A 9 page thread calling out one small business for doing exactly what every business does shows just how oblivious the average OT'er is. At least that business seems to tell customers. Most just charge it and don't say a word.

I thought it originally said 4.00 and was thinking that was too much, but last night I saw 4% and I just thought I had read it wrong.
4% ain’t bad, they are probably getting charged 3-4% themselves.

I used to avoid places that did that. But that’s getting harder to do.

Credit cards haven’t been the primary mode of spending for the average American for 80 years. They are now. Most people I know who avoided FDL did so because they didn’t take CC and their waitstaff sucked arse. Personally, I thought their pizza was dogshit as well, rounding out the trifecta

Credit/Debit card payments have been primary mode for the last twenty though.

You’re assertion regarding service and food quality likely/possibly sealed their demise.

That said, I believe Covid-19’s effect on the restaurant industry did them in.

So if my maths be correct you're bringing in about 1.5 mill a year just in CC transactions. You probably have decent margins and high volume. Maybe Linda is a small mom and pop shop that needs to squeeze every penny to get by.

Linda loses a couple customers and the hit to her bottom line any given day could be more than the fees

$4 is probably less than 4% for many orders

I think it's unethical. What most business did was raise prices across the board by 4-5% to cover fees. Most fees are like 2.75. It's 3.25% if manually entered. 3.75% Amex manual. 2.75+.15 if online invoiced. Yes there are fees but charging a fee to cover it is tacky.

First off, if you’re paying anywhere near that high fees your doing it wrong.

Second, most retailers can’t just raise the cost of products by x% to cover that. If it’s a product people shop price on they can’t do that.
