Linda's in Watson charges 4% if you use a debit card

Debit card transactions only cost the business around 60 cents.
People that do this are willing to deal with manual labor of cash and alienate people that don't like to use cash in order to save a very small amount of money. I wonder if that sort of strong preference for cash raises any red flags at the IRS?
edit: FB poster says it was 4% and not a flat $4 fee.

One local restaurant gives a 4% discount if you pay with cash.
Got an oil change the other day, and they are now charging 3% to use a card. This is at the dealership.

I think it's unethical.
What most business did was raise prices across the board by 4-5% to cover fees. Most fees are like 2.75. It's 3.25% if manually entered. 3.75% Amex manual.

I pay close to 40k a year processing credit cards for customers. We’ve just baked it into the prices vs. charge different payment prices for different forms of tender. Out of sight, out of mind. I wish we could get rid of tips altogether too and just bake that into the overall price as well.

Credit cards are typically around 2.5 to 3.0% of the purchase amount.
Places that make customers pay a fee to use a card deserve to go broke. That’s some ignorant, 1995 mom and pop bullshite.

I ate at a restaurant last week that put a 4% “convenience fee” on my ticket before bringing it to the table. I was paying cash so I asked the waitress why the fee was added? Also asked her since I was paying with cash who was going to get the $2.15? She looked like a deer in the headlights. I told her to tell her manager to take the fee off the ticket which they did but I just added it to the tip. It was not about the money, but it did piss me off that they just assume everyone is paying with a card.
