Debit cards are pretty trashy, too. I'm worth enough that I want a nice firewall between most transactions and my checking account.
That said, standing there counting out dimes and pennies and shite is just stupid and gross. What kind of a person doesn't even have a basic credit card in 2022? Like I said- trashy.

$4 is a helluva long way from 4% which is around the maximum cost for a credit card transaction.
I've reluctantly accepted the $5 minimum charge and a 3 or 4 percent cost increase from some hyper local merchants. I understand that the convenience store making a $3 sale has smaller margins and thus wants to force either a larger transaction or straight cash.
That said, Linda's can take their $4 charge and shove it. The last time I tried to go there, it was a Saturday evening, and they were closed. Ditto on Sundays. I think they've since expanded their hours, but Popeye's is basically across the street, and they (1) are open 7 days/week and (2) don't charge me extra for using a credit card via Apple Pay. Oh, and they actually have an app that works.
