re: Leaving out Vanderbilt...if your child received a scholarship to every SEC school...

No disrespect but UGA graduates some real knuckleheads and is not the academic Mecca some on this board purport it to be.
The same could be said about any university. A college education isn't the same as it was 30 years ago. The rise of easy-to-obtain student loans and the "everybody should go to college" mantra has resulted in a much softer university education.
Nowadays, it would be fairly accurate to say that - for 90% of "prestigious" U.S. universities - it's much harder to get accepted than it is to actually graduate.

UGA
But really I can't think of any SEC degree that could really hold any weight comparable to the others. I guess I know a few successful people with A&M degrees but they're all in oil and gas.
I think Univ of Georgia has some charm when applying for jobs nationwide.

UGA
A&M
UF
(assumes Bama excluded).
Best academic schools in states with strong alumni networks in growth markets.

Bama has their Presidential Scholarship, wherein if you score a 32 or better ACT, you get automatic Tuition, Room & Board, waive out of state, etc...
LSU used to have something similar in the early 2000s. LSU’s current admins need to be dick slapped into oblivion. The strides taken in the late 90s-early 00s have been almost completely washed away.

Depends on their chosen major
This. Every SEC school has good and bad parts.

And a Chemical Engineering Degree is more valuable than a degree in Art History from anywhere.
I take it you never went to Southeby's or Christie's?

UGA or Tennessee based on vicinity alone
Posted on 8/21/19 at 10:05 pm to PiscesTiger
Depends on what they are considering for a major.
I'd generally steer them to A&M, UF, UGA, LSU, Bama or Auburn.

LSU must be in bad shape. It's pretty sad that LSU is only mentioned once on the first page (and was a joke) on an LSU based website.
LSU has been discussed on other pages.
But as most here who know what they’re talking about, the intended degree path is important here.
While UGA might be more prestigious than LSU or TAMU...if your kid is wanting an engineering degree...the latter are far better options.
Same with, say, creative writing. You send your kid to Bama or Ole Miss. Not UF.

Georgia
Great town, nice campus, apparently good academics, unreal talent.

Georgia. Top 50 school and a great college town. Hard to beat that combo.

What rankings are you basing that on? I'm not seeing it.
Of course academics is about 25% of why I said Georgia.

I knew saying TAMU would bug the shite out of most of you guys. I don't now much about it other than having two kids graduate from the school with engineering degrees. They do have a lot of CEOs though.

Auburn University has had accreditation issues for years, what makes you chose them?

I assume you'd choose LSU? They're all good.
