The best education is a free education. And a Chemical Engineering Degree is more valuable than a degree in Art History from anywhere. 2 Lithettes went to LSU on schlolarship one's a chemical engineer and the other is a MD

I know several friends from the Nola area who are sending their kids to Bama. They are not athletes, so those damn gumps are doing something right.
over 70% of bama students are out of state. Graduate in the top half of your class at a catholic league school and bama will throw money at you

Bama has their Presidential Scholarship, wherein if you score a 32 or better ACT, you get automatic Tuition, Room & Board, waive out of state, etc...

My son is a HS Senior, scored a 35, and Bama is his "safe school". 10% chance he goes to LSU, even though he'd be 4th Generation. We just can't offer what the other schools can in money.

But to answer the question from someone that is currently touring schools Based on academics:
UF
UGA (Honors)

aTm

the rest

Hands down Florida. Their academics are top fricking notch.

Yeah UF after vandy is top notch for education. The competition to get in there now is unreal.

UT would be my closest option, so probably nowhere else. If she is really smart, I want to send her somewhere better than the SEC (leaving out Vandy of course) if she is going out of state. Preferably I would want her to go to a school where athletics aren't important, my ideal elementary to high school in Chattanooga for her has no contact sports available.

If she is just average, then she better make sure she has her finances in order to go somewhere out of state.

Alabama so he could actually experience football wins in college

I’ll just get him a job out of college when he majors in finance

UF has gotten to the point of being so nerdy they didn’t even sell out their student tickets to football this year. How a school in the south with 50,000 students doesn’t sell out football student tickets is sad.

If he pays attention they'll teach him the good ol boy system and he will rule south crackalackys business and politics. Hell he will probably end up a senator.

Why would he get into South Carolina business and politics?

LSU must be in bad shape.

It's pretty sad that LSU is only mentioned once on the first page (and was a joke) on an LSU based website.

I graduated from LSU, but the LSU I attended vs. The LSU now is night and day. Tops wasn't around yet when I started. And the campus culture was completely different. My kids want to go elsewhere when it is their turn? I am fine with it...hopefully no Ole Miss.

Interesting insight about UF. I had no idea they were that well thought of academically.

Football fans are dwindling everywhere. The 80s and 90s are over.

The Presidential Scholarship at Alabama is "only" $26,000 which leaves about $3,000 in tuition/fees (about equal to TOPS). Alabama is great about putting the scholarship qualifications and amounts on their website as opposed to LSU who seems to keep parents guessing.

The Presidential Elite offers more with a 4.0 and 36 ACT score.

The National Merit Finalist package at Bama is their best currently (full tuition for 5 years, 4 years housing and some stipends too).
