Leaving Lousiana?

I'm finally leaving south Louisiana. For anyone else who left was it tough to live somewhere else? This seems like a different planet compared to other parts of US. I know a lot of people who went to Houston, and they like it. Quality of school, healthcare is better, but there is not the LA culture. Plenty of transplants, but still if I have kids they won't get to see a lot of it.

Believe it or not, it's not that different except less alcoholism and fat people.

Possibly the most overrated thing on this board.

Everyone I know who’s moved say the same thing. They’re happy that they have a better financial situation and living conditions, but they miss the culture of Louisiana. This state really could be amazing, but it’s so fricking hard to get anything done.

Driving around drinking daiquiris and eating beignets everyday is no way to live.

That's probably true regardless.

Houston is no different than here, just more Mexicans and Aggie grads. The Louisiana ex-pat community there is huge, the climate is the same, same shitty traffic, there’s plenty of options to get Louisiana food products, etc. Houston is just a giant version of Baton Rouge with more jobs and better suburbs.

No. Don’t leave. Nowhere better to live in the US. No other states have spicy food.

I left Louisiana for Dallas when I was 23, best decision I ever made. Built successful career, got married, had kids, moved back to Louisiana 15 years later. Wish I’d stayed in Dallas.
