Those are all good points and I don't disagree. I think a lot of people here are crabs in bucket, there is a lot of bitching when people decide to move onwards and upwards.

there is a whole new world of opportunity out of LA, embrace it, you can always go back and visit but I guarantee
1) the longer you are away, the more you will appreciate where you moved to, except SE Texas, still way too close and the culture is the same
2) you will be able to tolerate LA less each visit unfortunately
3) your visits will be shorter and less frequent unfortunately...

My cousins who left and are very smart had this exact experience. They have been in Houston for decades. I can barely tolerate a lot of the people here, but still admire the regions culture.

By SE Texas I assume you are talking about the golden triangle. Similar yes but that would be worse for me. Houston's culture from my experience is a lot different

Let me guess, you are from Lake Charles and probably have never even made it past Alec but someone told you it was a shitehole and you believed them.

Yes from SWLA. My cousins moved up to Monroe many years ago. They live away from town and really like it, I have visited. I'm not going to lie to you and tell you Monroe and Shreveport are overall nice towns. LC is not even a nice town, albeit getting "nicer" than it used to be. Real thin veneer

I left Louisiana for Dallas when I was 23, best decision I ever made. Built successful career, got married, had kids, moved back to Louisiana 15 years later. Wish I’d stayed in Dallas.

I think I would like Houston/Dallas, but if I came back it would not be to live in BR. Maybe Uptown new orleans, or MAYBE lafayette if I had the right deal.

Course, but never lived anywhere else longer than a couple months.

Is there a good boudin place in da H? I know of Heberts from Lafayette area & LC that's by galleria, never tried if they have boudin, but i recall some good plate lunches.

All the other "Louisiana" restaurants in Houston i have tried were not it.. BB's was just a total misfire, and the asian boil chain LA Crawfish was not good. I believe I recall seeing a steamboat bills was opening, but that's nothing special.

Leaving Lousiana?

I'm finally leaving south Louisiana. For anyone else who left was it tough to live somewhere else? This seems like a different planet compared to other parts of US. I know a lot of people who went to Houston, and they like it. Quality of school, healthcare is better, but there is not the LA culture. Plenty of transplants, but still if I have kids they won't get to see a lot of it.
