Is there a good boudin place in da H? I know of Heberts from Lafayette area & LC that's by galleria, never tried if they have boudin, but i recall some good plate lunches.

All the other "Louisiana" restaurants in Houston i have tried were not it.. BB's was just a total misfire, and the asian boil chain LA Crawfish was not good. I believe I recall seeing a steamboat bills was opening, but that's nothing special.

I left Louisiana for Dallas when I was 23, best decision I ever made. Built successful career, got married, had kids, moved back to Louisiana 15 years later. Wish I’d stayed in Dallas.

I think I would like Houston/Dallas, but if I came back it would not be to live in BR. Maybe Uptown new orleans, or MAYBE lafayette if I had the right deal.

I too would rather live in a place with WAY more poverty, crime, and corruption for rice and liver in casing.

Got to throw rocks at Monroe? Let me guess, you are from Lake Charles and probably have never even made it past Alec but someone told you it was a shitehole and you believed them.

Jk, Monroe is a shitehole. Let me be the first to welcome you to Houston so you can join the countless other transplants from South LA. You will eventually realize the earth doesn’t end at Orange and there is still an oxygen supply over here. Tighten up on that Espanol though baw.

Take a look at California politics. That’s Houston in about 3yrs.

Hidalgo is fast tracking the change.

Yes from SWLA. My cousins moved up to Monroe many years ago. They live away from town and really like it, I have visited. I'm not going to lie to you and tell you Monroe and Shreveport are overall nice towns. LC is not even a nice town, albeit getting "nicer" than it used to be. Real thin veneer

I wouldn’t have moved back at all, but wife wanted kids to be closer to family (all in BR area).

there is a whole new world of opportunity out of LA, embrace it, you can always go back and visit but I guarantee
1) the longer you are away, the more you will appreciate where you moved to, except SE Texas, still way too close and the culture is the same
2) you will be able to tolerate LA less each visit unfortunately
3) your visits will be shorter and less frequent unfortunately...

We left three years ago this month and moved to Tennessee
quote:

was it tough to live somewhere else?

It somewhat sucked to leave all of our family, but our household income jumped 55% and we don’t pay income taxes now so we couldn’t leave fast enough. Family is only a weekend trip away.
quote:

This seems like a different planet compared to other parts of US.

It’s not all that different. Once you leave you’ll wonder what took so long. There’s a lot of world outside of Louisiana and it’s a beautiful sight to see.
quote:

but there is not the LA culture

You may miss the culture...“But muh Cajun food” isn’t a substitute for failing schools, corruption, failing economy, and some of the worst healthcare in the US and even worse “cultcha”

Listen, we love Louisiana, both my wife and I were born and raised there; her in Nola, myself in Ascension and Lafayette. However, going back home would mean a massive paycut, way less job opportunities, shitty schools and a huge decrease in quality of life.

I’ll accept my downvoted as needed, but those are my honest feelings.

Edit...I’ll add as well that each time we go back home, we’re shocked more and more by the shear filth everywhere in LA. Garbage lines the roads, the ditches, parking lots, it’s everywhere you look. LA is beautiful and it’s sad people just don’t give a shite.

I’m not going to defend Louisiana but it’s funny when people on here act like Houston and Dallas are world class cities

You won't really appreciate how shitty Louisiana is until you live somewhere where shite gets done.

All of my family is in Louisiana. Anything short of making me a millionaire for life, i'd never move back there.

If you want to be close to home, consider Houston or Austin, TX.

But after being in Houston for ten years.. i'm ready to be somewhere else. Its too damn hot and turning way too liberal.

Left 32 years ago. I didn’t have a job and the beeper didn’t beep no more. Hardest thing for me was taking my kids away from my folks. But they made up for it by coming to Colorado many many times for visits and would haul the kids back to the Chuck. Can’t say I’ve missed living down there.

I either pick up boudin and sausage at The Best Stop when I pass through Scott or have it delivered to me. For boiled crawfish I go to Crawfish Hideway in Baytown. They know how to boil them the right way.

My cousins who left and are very smart had this exact experience. They have been in Houston for decades. I can barely tolerate a lot of the people here, but still admire the regions culture.

By SE Texas I assume you are talking about the golden triangle. Similar yes but that would be worse for me. Houston's culture from my experience is a lot different
