They are two of the largest metros in the US. They certainly aren't great places to visit, but they must be decent places to live considering people from all over the US are moving to them in droves.

They have jobs. That’s about it

Those are all good points and I don't disagree. I think a lot of people here are crabs in bucket, there is a lot of bitching when people decide to move onwards and upwards.

Id rather live somewhere with a good job than have to deal with a bunch of tourists all the Damn time, but that's my personal opinion.

Not that different? This state is a trashed out hell hole. Most other states are not like this...

I could understand being worried about leaving Louisiana if you were moving overseas or to a completely different part of the country, i.e. the Northeast. But you’re talking about moving to Texas? That’s damn near the same place. There really won’t be any difference other than not being around family and needing to make new friends.

No. Don’t leave. Nowhere better to live in the US. No other states have spicy food.

Still obsessed with the place even though you left, I see.

Your Louisiana derangement syndrome rivals the left's obsession with Trump and Mingo's obsession with fat people.

I don’t want to live somewhere that lacks the appeal and intrigue to actually have tourists

Used to be I could drive up to
Bastrop for the night
Find some crossroad trucker
To demonstrate his might
But these days it seems
Nowhere is far enough away
So I'm leaving Louisiana today

Most millennials and gen-xers from Louisiana have been bearing the brunt of the Louisiana Diaspora for so long that they are likely to have as many friends and family members in Houston as they do in their home town where they grew up.

It's like moving to America from a third world country.

I too would rather live in a place with WAY more poverty, crime, and corruption for rice and liver in casing.

You can get boudin shipped to you no matter where you live. It’s expensive to ship it out to the west coast or up to the northeast, but it’s very affordable to have delivered to your door in Houston.

No, but I'm still in the "South" so it's not crazy different culturally. It's not like I moved to Seattle or New York.

Our #1 reason was schools, we wanted good public schools without having to move the 'burbs and commute an hour each way. I was working in downtown BR and didn't want to live in Central or Zachary or fight the traffic from Ascension.

SETX is its own neck of woods, it shares some commonalities with both TX and LA, and there are some good people. Mostly I would classify it as a hell hole. My folks lived in Beaumont for a year or two and didn't love it.

Left last may and moved to Knoxville. Louisiana is definitely a different culture, but I've been very happy with the move.
