Feel free to add "theft" to that list, as well.

Biggest one I see regularly. People say assault 99% of the time when they mean battery

Somewhere along the way people starting thinking it meant you could just do whatever the hell you want and no one could stop you

I feel like a lot of people have adopted this feeling about a lot of amendments, that they protect you however you want to be protected against whoever you want to be protected against.

Some of my favorite myths:

-You have a right to one (but only one) phone call.
-Police have to read you your Miranda rights, regardless of whether they ask you question or whether you're under arrest.
-Precedent. Everyone thinks everything under the sun sets precedent for everything else under the sun.

One I've seen on here a lot is "discovery is going to be fun." Discovery isn't just some unregulated free for all where you get to forcibly take whatever you want from the other party.

Fat women in certain office environments go ape shite over “HIPPA” and think it governs everyone at all times

That was my first thought.

I'm not a medical professional, so I can legally share the fact that Mildred Carmody of Centralia, PA had a hemorrhoid 4" in diameter removed, on your Medicaid dime. Also, she told graphic stories of her incestuous deeds while coming off anesthesia.

A lot of people think you can retain some right of recall over securities you put into a securities lending program when trying to execute a busted 1058 transaction to create a realization event for tax purposes but they are wrong

Believing that you aren’t trespassing if you didn’t know you were trespassing.

Every state is different.
But in Georgia, you aren't going to get a trespassing conviction without no trespassing signs.

There are other laws which serve the same purpose (loitering and prowling is easier to get a conviction. The only requirement is that the perp must be evasive when confronted. Someone who is confronted, talked with, and leaves hasn't broken any laws)
