It was shipping containers at the harbor that got washed up on land and broke open.
Ahh, gotcha. I knew it was something like that.

Grandpa survived Katrina in pilottown. Pretty wild story.
I gotta hear this one
He was around 85 at the time. Stubborn old man and WW2 veteran that lived majority of his life in Pilottown. Never left for Betsy, Camille, or any other storms.
Stayed in Katrina in his 100 year old home made of Cypress. Water came up much quicker than other storms. Left his house when it was about 2ft in the house and went to the Bar pilot (river pilot) station. 2 story building on pilings. Windows broke out on 2nd story where he was with water splashing into the 2nd story (windows probably around 22-24ft high). Water was lifting the station on its pilings and slamming it back down. At daylight he saw a 100+ft barge miss the station he was in by about 20ft and then preceded to take out about 10 houses with one of them being the one his and the one he fled. He said the building went up and down with the water for hours. We surveyed the station after and the pilings were on a 30-45+ deg angle toward the marsh. A little more pounding and pilings would have probably given.
We thought he was probably dead and finally got a call from the coast guard almost 2 weeks later. He rode the coast guard ship to NO.

@LouisianaGov says I-10 is being shut down from the Atchfalaya bridge to west of the Texas state line because it will likely be flooded in spots #Lagov #lawx
That's kind of shitty that they won't let you continue east if you're trying to bail. Lafayette to the basin bridge isn't flooding.

People can claim Katrina was only cat 3 when it made landfall but the impacts from Katrina defied the saffer Simpson scale.

I'm not as familiar with LA, but looking at surge map, how can anyone in Cameron survive?
I don't mean to be crass, but I'm always surprised there isn't more loss of life in these things. I just don't know how someone can make it out alive with the surge. Prayers for everyone.

t might have been Cat 3 winds, but it was Cat 5 storm surge. Winds can die down, water has momentum and won't slow quickly.
My parents live on Jourdan River in Kiln. They are 7 miles up river from the Bay and still had 26 ft. of water. My dad was in the middle of finishing his new home at the time, and he built it 23 ft. above the normal river level - the highest house in his area. Still got water. That storm surge was unreal.

Katrina’s passed over Buras, La , then Slidell. Picayune /Stennis/Kiln, The Pass, BSL took the NE quadrant.

Hey it ain’t that bad
I have had to watch it more times than I wanted. My husband likes it. Maybe because it’s so bad it’s good?

Y’all in the path or with family in the path, or even soon to face extended power outages/storm damage outside the path, prayers and thoughts from GA. This looks bad.

I just want to thank the baws offering to donate their hotel points. The OT. We break each other’s balls constantly, but many times when the shite hits the fan the OT is there for one another.

IIRC there was some part of Gulfport, MS where a warehouse that processed or stored chicken was hit and there was raw and then rotting chicken all over the place. I'm sure the smell was horrendous.
It was also New Orleans Cold Storage and NOLA Fish House.
