I will donate my Marriott points if someone needs them. Let me know.
I have just short of 20K Marriott points and will chip in a little bit if someone is in a pinch.
Do all of y’all who are solo have people y’all are in touch with?
-for a known poster. I do not want to be scammed. I’m sure an easy, quick vouche by people will be fine. I just don’t want someone getting scammed.

Katrina hit Bay St. Louis head on. Not New Orleans right?
Correct. The Mississippi Gulf Coast actually took the worst part of Katrina's eyewall.

We can claim it the strongest ever by wind speed because that guess of an 1856 hurricane is BS. It won't beat Katrina's pressure but no one cares about that.
I'll be honest - I don't believe any of the hurricane records pre 1960.

might have been Cat 3 winds, but it was Cat 5 storm surge. Winds can die down, water has momentum and won't slow quickly.

Or Plaquemines parish for Katrina where it made landfall first. 20-25ft storm surge there also. Grandpa survived Katrina in pilottown. Pretty wild story. Guy who rode it out in Port Eads at end of south pass was never found.
That was Buzzy Scarabin’s brother. I knew Buzzy well.

She went right over my parents house. We went down about ten days after, and that's something I'd rather not do again.
The sights, sounds, smell, etc. All crazy.

The geography of the MS Gulf Coast also played a role. Waveland/BSL got it from the gulf and the back bay.

Edwards using "apocalyptic" to describe the storm. I take back everything I've said about Rob

How many people have work tomorrow but wants to stay up all night watching the coverage? I will be very tired tomorrow.
That’s better than being in the path of it and having work/school cancelled at least for the next couple of days.

Similar story for my inlaws. They stayed in a 100 yr. old house in lower St. Bernard for Katrina cause...well...it withstood storms for 100 years. Spent a couple days in the attic before hacking their way out, getting picked up, put on a barge, sent to Texas. We didn’t know for over a week if they were dead or alive.
I love/hate these stories.

Same with Biloxi

If it wasn’t for that whole sea level situation New Orleans would have made out pretty well.

I evacuated for Katrina. Also for Ivan and Gustav. I got pretty good at it between 2004 and 2008.
