Yeah for a CAT 4-5 I would drive until I found a hotel or slept in my truck.

This is like being on the Mississippi gulf coast during Katrina

Went to Waveland shortly after Katrina. Looked like an atomic bomb was dropped. I imagine that’s what most of Cameron and Vermillion will look like tomorrow.

Or Plaquemines parish for Katrina where it made landfall first. 20-25ft storm surge there also. Grandpa survived Katrina in pilottown. Pretty wild story. Guy who rode it out in Port Eads at end of south pass was never found.

Some people aren't afraid of dying. After 2020 it wouldn't be the worst time to go out

Insurance can’t take care of that?

I'm sure it can, but these people aren't thinking rationally.

I guarantee these people stayed for Rita so they think they can handle anything.

Not to mention I'd love to know what secret fortress the looters are riding out the storm from

We can claim it the strongest ever by wind speed because that guess of an 1856 hurricane is BS. It won't beat Katrina's pressure but no one cares about that.

If Laura maintains her current intensity all the way to landfall, where would she rank as far as strongest storms to hit LA?

Is it just me or the NW and NE Eyewalls flagging really high SFMR?

Normally you see the twitter worthy readouts from the NE Eyewall.

You’ve made it 87 years. Riding into the sunset aboard a 20 foot storm surge sounds preferable to waiting for a cold to kill you

The longer version is even better. Tied the boat to the roof but didn’t tie the gas can to the boat. Snakes, gators on the roof with him, the roof of hs burning while he waited to load onto the helicopter, the bus ride to San Antonio, me tracking him through message board posts and him finally getting one of my messages at the San Antonio shelter and borrowing a cell phone from a National Guardsman to call

Similar story for my inlaws. They stayed in a 100 yr. old house in lower St. Bernard for Katrina cause...well...it withstood storms for 100 years. Spent a couple days in the attic before hacking their way out, getting picked up, put on a barge, sent to Texas. We didn’t know for over a week if they were dead or alive.
