Everyone knows Lake Charles is where Prince Charles lives, and that's why the UKMET has Laura hitting there.

,
Also shear winds are dry air from a ridge originating over Colorado/Oklahoma which is what’s been pushing the storm further East.
Depending on what wins the battle, Cowan indicated we could see substantial weakening before landfall. Also indicated Marco remaining very compact due to dry air penetration.

The storm is doing battle with wind shear, and is unlikely to get significantly stronger,

Just pack it up.
If it gets cancelled you can just unpack it.

There is very little "wild speculation" going on.
The models are doing enough of that on their own.

Anyone have any guesses on what MSY will do tomorrow? My in-laws have a flight out of there at 10AM. We are supposed to go take care of their dogs and now I may wait to pack up my stuff in case their trip is canceled.
Last i heard, Landfall supposed to be around 1am this morning. I’m guessing the winds will still be too high for flights at 10am, but i could be wrong. Check the wind maps that show what to expect at what time on nhc Website
Fwiw, my husband flew home a couple hours before a storm made landfall last July. I thought for sure his flight would be cancelled but it wasn’t. So it’s really hard to say. The airlines tweet updates and will answer questions pretty promptly on twitter.

What is the best follow on Twitter to track hurricanes? Anyone?

Is there any better feeling than cutting the grass right before back to back hurricanes?
I say there is not.

Both showing a severe hurricane, Cat 3 or stronger.
The more westward it goes, the longer it’s over the GOM.

Marco is handling the shear pretty well. You can still see it's there with the clouds more east loaded but got it's self wrapped in the center of that blob. Got enough coverage upshear to have a window to strengthen more this afternoon.
I just don't see it lasting as eventually the shear gets to small centers. Interesting watch this afternoon for the nerds.

This thread is such a shite show. It's either going to be no big deal or complete and utter devastation. Mixed in between those posts are wild speculation, trolling, and politics.
In my view, the weather threads are among the very few places on TD in general and the OT in particular that you can get some very good information from knowledgeable people. Sure there are always the ideologues, trolls and goofballs of one stripe or another who are best ignored or enjoyed as your disposition dictates, but there is very good info too.

Wish there was an actual serious thread that was monitored by an admin to keep it weather news related.
I've found the best way to get the good information is to check out the first post which seems to be updated regularly and well, and tune in to the last page in the thread around when the new updates are posted by the weather service and the models. That's where most of the serious discussion takes place. Other than that, there is often some good anecdotal info from people in different places,(especially once the storm arrives) which can be useful. I personally don't mind the silly stuff, but you can avoid most of it using the method I mentioned.

Ponder this
If a storm is 96 hours out and a model projects landfall “x” then at 72 hours the same model projects landfall “y” And then at 48 hours it says “z” and storm eventually lands at “x”- was the model wrong?

I believe Marco is peaking this afternoon and will weaken some tonite. Conditions are more hostile ahead.
With that said, I doubt we have two hurricanes in the GOM at one time.
