is marco expected to strenghten or weaken before landfall? sorry for the redudant question but i've been hurricane prepping all day and haven't been able to really follow this thread. only hearing the panic from the locals.

It should weaken due to fighting substantial shear pretty much its entire time in the Gulf. It is a small system that will feel the impact of any shear or dry air more than if it were larger. This current strengthening for Marco is not unexpected, and it shouldn't last.

#Laura's center is now clear on radar, moving to the south of eastern Cuba. The circulation will likely interact with Cuba's mountains later today/tonight, but the storm's structure is healthy, which is not an encouraging sign for when it enters the Gulf of Mexico tomorrow night.

Pressure at landfall aside, being sub 1,000 before it exits Cuba is a good sign of strengthening going forward in the Gulf.

Pretty much the only thing keeping Laura from bombing out right now is land. It has everything else in its favor right now.

Will Laura keep tracking west? What could happen for it to come back east? I know I’ll get downvoted for asking a question but I am actually trying to understand how all this works.

These are the questions worth asking.

So it's going to ride along the edge of a ridge. It's a high pressure cell and flow around it is clockwise. So on the SW and W side you get WNW to N motion.

It's going to take this path but it depends on where it enters the gulf. The farther south it gets, the farther west it goes. It's the same thing pushing it so it goes the same direction.

What gets it back east would be cutting north across Cuba early and getting close to the Keys. Off the western tip or south of Cuba, it goes to Texas.

Yeah, that Euro run is gonna make the NHC scratch their collective heads. No way its that weak, but Euro's record is pretty impeccable for track location.

WTF Euro, c'mon man.

That's frustrating af.

I'm not sure about the euro right now. Seems to be struggling.

It's like he doesn't think we know the Pentagon has the Tropical Cannon.

A note on the 12Z ECMWF:

The rightward track of #Laura into SE Louisiana appears to be due to #Marco falling apart on the model, leaving its remnants in the gulf, which then pivot Laura to the right. Can't guarantee this doesn't happen, but so far, Marco is holding together.

What’s your (or anyone’s) guesstimate on top wind speed for Marco at landfall?
