IT's crazy how GFS currently doesn't think Marco will ever make landfall.

Important to keep in mind, though, is that strengthening shouldn't last.

I’ll kindly disagree. Just looking at the IR satellite loop, Marco is starting to form an eye. May not be RI but it is certainly getting stronger

Sure, if you want to ignore the particulars of the setup in the Gulf right now. The shear is not going away for a day or two, and Marco's being ahead of schedule (moving faster than first predicted) puts it at risk of shear even more.

This intensification was not unexpected. However, Marco is small and it is quite susceptible to outside influence, the shear that is in its path currently.

This thread is such a shite show. It's either going to be no big deal or complete and utter devastation. Mixed in between those posts are wild speculation, trolling, and politics.

This is actually probably the most level, even-handed hurricane thread in quite some time. There is very little "wild speculation" going on.

Probably because every possibility has been within the cone of uncertainty in the last few days.

Yeah it did happen but you have to remember those storms were in late Septermber Not late August. The gulf had already started cooling off due to fall air, then Isadore came through and caused a ton of upwelling and further cooled the track area. Lily looked like she was going to be a monster and the cool water really knocked her down. I do not see Marco having either enough time or strength to cause massive cooling in the Gulf. Certainly not enough to have any real impact on Laura's strength. Track maybe but not strength.

Lol at the gulf cooling off in September. There’s a reason sept is peak of hurricane season

If the peak is sept 10, that implies a decline in late September

HMON looks like it is heading for the mid Texas coast. HWRF initialized well so I bet it bombs out this run. Waiting for landfall.

really hoping that’s close to what happens.
if Marco could do us a small solid I think/hope we can deal with Laura a little inland (the coast will get it no matter what).

going to suck no matter what though. The rain usually doesn’t make a huge impact on me but high winds bring my trees down

No enough to weaken a hurricane
Bet there has been just as many if not more major gulf hurricanes in sept as August

Anyone have any guesses on what MSY will do tomorrow? My in-laws have a flight out of there at 10AM. We are supposed to go take care of their dogs and now I may wait to pack up my stuff in case their trip is canceled.
