Oh for the love of god at least take the time to open up google maps and take a look at the area around Odessa.
But but Odessa is just two inches away on the map and the map is flat! You could roll multiple BTGs in as the crow flies by tomorrow morning and wrap up the coastline by noon. Why you military folks so stupid? Three decade old Chicken a la King MREs rot your brain?
* can't help a "war" story: went on a 6 day FTX back in the late 80s and instead of mixed MREs every box for our entire company was Chicken a la King. The first 3 weren't bad but by number 4 they made me almost puke just opening them.

I used to love MREs until I had to live a month on them.

The problem was and is that Mariupol and other cities weren't "separatist." They could do it to small Russian speaking rural towns but not larger cities. Slowly move the population, offer people passports to go to Russia then don't let them go back to Ukraine because Ukraine is under territorial dispute and it is too dangerous, forced relocation but with a smile.
But as it stands now, Russia is now faced with an eternal insurgency. Donbas will never be Russias, it'll be a war torn territory indefinitely, and the land bridge to Crimea will never be fully operational, it will always have incursions and attacks upon it. It's a disaster for Russia, and Putin is too arrogant to see otherwise.

Did you see this analysis of the Oryx Data? Certainly it is not definitive and represents incomplete knowledge, but it is interesting.
europmaidanpress/Oryx analysis

I don't know if it's true but I've seen a couple times now references to Putin having blood cancer. If that's true and he dies in the near future that might change the dynamics some

We were debating which was worse last night, Dehydrated pork patty or the chicken a La king.

I had not seen it and it is interesting.
That being said I don't lend complete credence to their Ukrainian numbers since they are clearly Ukranian biased. The way they document them it would be much harder to over-represent Russian losses than under-represent Ukrainian losses. That doesn't mean I don't smile when I look at the page each day.

Before that debacle, I would have said pork patty every time, after I would beg to trade someone a Chicken a la crap for ANYTHING else.

I think Oryx has an accidental Ukraine lean/bias. However, the two authors are Dutch (Stijn Mitzer and Joost Oliemans), and have an authorship and blog that far precedes this war. For instance if you go go about page 41 in their blog you see ISIS equipment captures, and a lot of work on North Korea capability.

Pork with rice and BBQ sauce was the worst.

Yeah they're ok for a few days but after that they constipate the hell out of you.
Chili Mac MRE FTW.

now they absolutely have to have them. China gained significant leverage over Russia.
Russia has fricked themselves. They are now more isolated from the EU, face a renewed, expanded NATO and will likely be beholden to China even more than ever. China, however, sits idley by watching everyone else increase China's geopolitical prestige. Sun Tzu would be proud of China.
