I think Oryx has an accidental Ukraine lean/bias. However, the two authors are Dutch (Stijn Mitzer and Joost Oliemans), and have an authorship and blog that far precedes this war. For instance if you go go about page 41 in their blog you see ISIS equipment captures, and a lot of work on North Korea capability.
I personally don't use their Ukrainian numbers because even if Oryx is 100% accurate in their assessments there are a lot of things out of their control since it is open source. I think both sets of numbers can be used as a minimum. I am reluctant to rely on comparison ratios.
I have no issue with others using the numbers there are far more sketchy sources out there. This is just a me thing and I wouldn't argue anyone should follow my gut.
There are some people that have HUMINT assets ITT, I don't anymore and I am naturally skeptical amount military numbers from a war zone so I temper myself.

Or, ya know, we could just open up production in the US.

It’s The Gateway Pundit. The WSJ ran the original article behind a paywall.

RA'd for sticky as well.
Weirdly the most convincing piece of information I’ve learned from this thread that things aren’t going well for Russia is that the political board thread anchor was removed.

Russian state TV on Finland/Sweden wanting to join Nato:“Their official reason is fear. But they’ll have more fear in Nato. When Nato bases appear in Sweden & Finland, Russia will have no choice but to neutralise the imbalance & new threat by deploying tactical nuclear weapons.”

Putin does realize that NATO may or may not respond to nukes uses in Ukraine since it is not NATO. However, NATO will 100% respond with nukes if attacks Sweden and/or Finland with nukes, doesn't he? Of course the crazy bassturd is dying so he might not care if he starts a nuclear war before he kicks the bucket.

More good news from Ben Wallace. Couple of days old. Underlines the importance of resupplying Ukraine with western weapons whenever possible.
Both the U.S. and Britain believe the most effective way to help Ukraine at the moment is providing Russian-made, Soviet-era military equipment compatible with what Ukrainian forces already have, Wallace said.
The U.K.’s defense ministry has focused on finding Russian-made hardware in countries around the world, but officials discovered Russia was also looking to replenish its own stocks, Wallace said.
“Sometimes we’ve bumped into the Russians in some countries looking for some of the resupplies because that’s what they’re running out of fast.”
In long run, Putin has 'lost,' U.K. defense secretary says

One thing is for certain: Russia will always pick the most retarded option possible.
That being said, I think even the most idiotic of soldiers in the rocket corps would know better than to follow through with a launch order.
As crooked as Russia is, I’m sure that the money allocated for nuke maintenance is currently moored in a picturesque harbor in Mallorca like everything else.

I bet these are interesting stories on firsthand accounts.

I don't know if it's true but I've seen a couple times now references to Putin having blood cancer. If that's true and he dies in the near future that might change the dynamics some
I don't know if it changes the dynamics or not, but it definitely does explain timing of the invasion. Putin could have waited two to three years and filled his coffers with $$$ from high oil prices and gotten Europe so dependent on Russian natural gas with the opening of Nord Stream 2 that they would not have risked helping Ukriane. Plus he would have caught the USA and Ukraine in presidential election cycles where an unpopular incumbents (Zelenski's approval rating was in the low 30s prior to the invasion and Biden's approval ratings are in the 30s now) were trying to win reelection so both Ukraine and the USA would have been divided and less able to respond. However, if it is true that a 69 year old Putin really does have leukemia (aka blood cancer) then he likely does not have 2 or 3 years. The average life expectancy for AML (which is the most common leukemia for someone Putin's age) for people 70 and older. Putin had to invade Ukraine when he did if he wanted to achieve his life's vision of Novorussia.

I used to love MREs until I had to live a month on them.
Fast forward 25 years, he wouldn’t let us eat that shite as kids.
Couldn’t even bring it in the house.
Post-K I ate enough MRE’s (and was happy to have them then) to hold me for the rest of my life.
Additionally, flagged Obtuse’s earlier message RA’ing for a sticky again.

Eh, this war will drag on another year or two. Most of this thread is just idle chit chat and one side flaming the other. I’d rather let this one die and get new threads for major developments.

It got unstickied on the day that Ukraine launched a major counteroffensive that has the potential of doing serious damage to the Russian efforts. If Ukraine captures Izium and/or cuts the Russian GLOC to Izium the majority of the Russian troops in Ukraine will either be cut off or have to retreat back to positions the separatist held prior to launching the invasion. You are right the war probably will go on for a while and possibly years since the pre-invasion controlled areas and Crimea are heavily fortified and the fighting will likely turn back into WW1 style trench warfare like it was from 2014 to 02/23/22. However, the next 2 - 6 weeks will be active AF. Plus the ground is just now drying up for us to get some good old fashion tank on tank battles.

The chicken MRE. It comes with some buffalo sauce, tortillas, always one of those bars, and candy. And you can't frick up the chicken. It's actually like a semi normal meal.
In the Watapur valley back in 2009, in the Ghan we’d alternate guard shifts, between eating chili mac and chicken MRE’s, manning the radios, watching for enemy activity and, when possible, drop artillery on the terrorist frickers when they tried to maneuver.

That will probably make things a lot more difficult for the Ukrainians. It’s nice when your drones just have to scan roads looking for bunched up targets. Scanning thousands of square miles of fields and forests looking for tanks is a whole new ball game no matter how good your equipment is.
The Russians being stuck to roads was an advantage for Ukraine because they could focus their technically superior combat power at small choke points as opposed to vast fronts. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

They'll get real time Intel and be blaating them from 20 miles out with the new artillery units we gave them.
