what is your opinion on what NATOs reaction will be if Russia declares all out war and full military mobilization?
I still think NATO would continue the same course they're taking now. It's just not worth the risk in starting a global war.
Now if Putin is stupid enough to attack a NATO nation...well...I hope everyone is ready for WWIII.

Meanwhile Belarus has launched a surprise military readiness checks on its armed forces.
What does this mean? Are they checking to see if they are up to snuff? Are they checking to prepare them for battle? Or do they believe they aren't worth a crap and need to be surprised? Poland ought to be working on subversive activities with democracy desiring Belarussians.

You know when the 18th ABC hit the ground they were up and running and fighting the war in 24 hours. We do it right and it shows.
That's one thing working with foreign militaries will teach you real quick.
There's professional military forces. Then there's the US Military.
The only countries that come close are the UK, Australia, Germany, Israel, France, and maybe Poland.
Although it will be interesting to see the Ukrainian military after it makes it through this.

Maybe its the coffee but I'm feeling redeemed after Iraq and Afghanistan. Move, shoot, communicate is what we do best and watching this shite show you can say we are pretty good at it.
I notice you didnt comment on "we didnt get your slide and we are briefing the boss in 5"

Mariupol mayor reports Russian forces have entered the Azovstal steelworks. Contact has been lost w/Ukrainian troops within, who are alongside civilians. Reports of heavy fighting — hard to imagine the hell those Ukrainian troops & civilians are enduring.

Wouldn't shock me if true. Rumors are that Putin really wants a May 9 parade in Mariupol. Doubt he cares that a direct assault will cause more Russian causalities than it's worth, so it would make sense.

People keeping saying "global war", but at this point why? I think Putin's time on this matter is down to weeks. If they can't defeat a country of $44 million with a horrible GDP and thus military budget, how can anyone think they would stand a chance against Nato? Nato would crush them in a couple of days. Kick their arse back half way to Moscow and then pull back when its clear they are defeated to prevent a nuclear escalation.
At this point, the Russian people aren't stupid and have to understand they aren't a top global military right now and can't act like it especially when most of Nato is working against you financially and logistically with supplies.

Nukes. And a dictator crazy enough to use them if it means keeping his "honor".

A Russian military parade in Mariupol sounds like a target-rich environment. Do the Ukrainians have the ability to exploit it?
It would be a propaganda bonanza if they could mess it up.

If they defeat Russia they can be the big dog in free Europe. Not in an economic sense but in the sense of an emerging nation with a resilient populace. They will need a lot of western money to rebuild but all of the free eastern European countries will want to ally with them.
Though it's early, can they push Russia out of Crimea?

If they can push Russia out of Eastern Ukraine (big if), I suspect they will turn their sights on Crimea. I'm surprised they haven't taken down the bridge linking Crimea to land.

I think the timing is right, cant do it quickly or he is a martyr. Plus it takes time to organize and you have to let the suffering sink in and you want some survivability, nobody wants to go on a one way trip.

he can try all he wants. Based on simply budget and cost to maintain nuclear weapons and the tech to launch....i do not beleive they have more than 10 working nukes not on subs.
I do not believe they have suddenly developed the tech to be able to avoid being detected and followed at all times by our boomers.
i also beleive we have infiltrated the highest rungs of russian intellegnce services. I think we would have enough time to stop any attack.
I could be wrong and i have been out for 15+ years now, but I just have a hard time seeing finacially i could be wrong on this. the russian budget is published, we know their issues with corruption etc

exactly. One of the biggest differences when i was in....even with the allies, if their officer was killed...it was a retreat as soon as they could.
the US military...didnt matter, it could be a damn E-4 squad leader....you are moving forward and continuing the mission.
people that have never been in cant comprehend the differences really. and its hard for other militaries, including our closest allies, to really understand americans and they think we are all cowboys because of the lack of understanding.

I wonder how these deserters get back home. Do they filter back individually? Do they form a convoy, stopping at gas stations along the way? For an authoritarian country, Russia is a lot more haphazard about this sort of thing than I would have imagined.
