Which was an unfinished vessel from the Soviet era. Apparently Ukraine was the main builder of Russian military machines.

Well the Black Sea Shipyard in Mykolaiv was the USSR’s biggest shipyard. I wonder if the Russians try to attack Mykolaiv again to steal the Ukrainian slava class cruiser now?

Speaking for myself I read too much into their success in Syria 2015-present and also in Ukraine the first time around in 2014-15. I think that was common. We'll see how they do in the east and south though. It's incredible for the Ukrainians that they defended Kiev but they're still in danger of losing a lot of territory in the east and south.

The big difference w/Syria was that it was really just the Russians helping Assad put down anyone who opposes his rule. I don’t think they’d have had anywhere near the same success if they had been trying to occupy Syria in order to annex parts of if.

Different battle for sure. Don’t think the residents are as fractured as much as Syria. Regardless; it’s going to get worse before it gets better.

They have 4 months to finish this or Putin is done. I was not kidding when I said the Russian military can only fight a sustained war for 6 months max. By then most all of their armor, vehicles etc will brake down and they don’t face the spare parts.

Correct. They were simply fortifying Assad's position in the country and providing a rallying point around which various parties (his allies, combative neutrals who could be convinced, combative enemies who could be persuaded, etc.) in the war could coalesce. They didn't actually do a much from a kinetic perspective in Syria except provide air support and the occasional special operations raid, and the anti-air capabilities of the rebels, including the Islamic State, were pretty much non-existent. The Russians lost a couple hundred all told (including contractors) in Syria; as a counter-factual, if they had attempted to do what we did in Iraq as far as occupation and pacification with hundreds of thousands of soldiers, they would have lost tens of thousands of KIA.
I do feel bad for the average Russian. They've been seduced by the succulent poison of mythical nationalist glory that has proven to be a catastrophic fly trap countless times in history. They're a relatively poor country with horrible demographics that is shrinking by the year; life isn't getting better for most of those people no matter the outcome of this war. Get them out of Ukraine and be done with the whole affair in my opinion; there is no need to humiliate them further even if there were the opportunity to do so (which I think will be the case). Putin will be dead soon enough.
