So veteran kremlin watchers, guys I know and respect are saying the sinking of the Mockba is the humiliation. The problem is Russia can’t acknowledge it without acknowledging everything. They also can’t put together a false flag operation without explaining how the Ukrainians could plausibly do it after the “Chechen Apartment Bombings” caught Russia off guard back when Putin was first coming to power. If I understand what people are explaining to me Putin has so completely overplayed his hand that he’s caught between; this is just a police action to rid Ukrainians of their Nazi problem and should be done soon to nobody believes my shite anymore and nobody will willingly go to die in my war. TLDR Putin has land mined his way into a land mined corner all his options are bad and there can’t be any coherent messaging without revealing his stupidity, miscalculation and ruination.

Kremlin still on message

MOSCOW, April 15. /TASS/. Moscow views eliminating nationalist battalions in Ukraine as a top priority task, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday. "The main task is to liberate [Ukraine] from these nationalist battalions after all. The operation continues and the tasks that have been set are well known. They must and will be accomplished. There must be no doubts about that," the Russian presidential spokesman said. As Peskov pointed out, "peaceful life is returning where nationalist battalions do not take civilians hostage and where these nationalist battalions do not open fire on social facilities and houses." "However, in those places where nationalist battalions are engaged in what I spoke about, there is fierce struggle and all of them must be eliminated there," the Kremlin press secretary said.

If I didn't know any better that Kremlin spokesperson sounds like they are talking about life returning to normal after Russia is kicked out, not the other way arouns

the first naval vessel lost to enemy action since the Falklands campaign 40 years ago (Argentinian cruiser Belgrano)
Actually, the British guided missile destroyer Sheffield was sunk by Argentina 8 days after the Belgrano. I had to look it up. A lot of similarities to the Moskva, including sinking as being towed. For this to happen 40 years after the Sheffield shows how little the Russians learn.

What didn’t they learn? I haven’t seen pics of the sunken ship yet, but what were their options to prevent it from sinking? Obviously you can take it to shallow water and repair it at sea, was that an option?

I am very shocked at how the Russians have performed so far in this war. I always thought they’d be better than this, and had one of the better militaries in the world. They’re no better than Iran, India, or Pakistan. Stupid people in charge of big and powerful weapons.

I wouldn’t go that far. The reality is we never know any of this.
Russia is being slowed and Ukrainians benefiting from a warm spring. That’s a major benefit to the home team without being able to mobilize in many areas and essentially being bottle necked.
I also think the Manpads have advanced to a point that mechanized warfare is going to have to drastically change in the future. The foot soldier is back to having a level playing field and that’s again a major benefit to the home team.
We also don’t know the real casualty numbers.

Naval warfare too. No admiral and no president wants to be the one to lose a carrier and 5000 sailors on his watch. And it could happen.

Don't put a ship in harms way that you can't afford to lose. It only takes one or at most two hits.

Yeah, but then why have the ship?

That's the question, isn't it? After Jutland, the German fleet didn't come out again even though they had won a tactical victory. They couldn't afford to lose any more ships.

But when did the ammo blow up?
Has there been any report of someone checking the seismographs that monitor the earth quake producing faults that parallel the north Turkey coast?
Reason:
The SOS call was reported at (IIRC) 1:04 a.m. (presumedly local time)
The reason for the SOS thus happened before the call was issued. How many minutes before the commander issued that call? He had to wake up (to the hit) and maybe however many additional minutes to the second hit. You don't abandon ship because of two hits. Were the explosions immediate or were they building exponentially?
Did the fifty some who were pulled out of the sea -were they in life rafts? Were they just the guys who were starboard and aft and who could see that all hell had broken loose?
If the explosions were below the water line, the non-compressive water line, seismographs could have recorded them. (Wasn't the Thresher's implosion recorded?)
What are the sailors who saved the fifty survivors saying about what they saw?

Today is Day 51 of the Russia-Ukraine War.
Ukraine army has repulsed eight Russian attacks in Eastern Ukraine today destroying dozens of military vehicles including at least four tanks.
Ukraine has now started shelling a second Russian town in the Belgorod region.
Ukraine & Russia agreed to a prisoner swap today in Kherson.
Russia bombing areas of Kiev today.
France is reopening its Embassy in Kiev.

I read these announcements with a degree of bemusement. They can agree to exchange prisoners but they can't agree to stop killing each other.

I'm guessing the Romanian and Turkish security services met the rescue boats at the dock, took charge of the Russians, confiscated any photographic evidence, logbooks, etc and warned the crews not to say anything. The reason I assume this is otherwise we'd have seen pictures and interviews by now.

Here’s a different view - Russia settling in and preferring a long war. Hadn’t used this source before but appears fairly neutral?
Yeah, it's pretty easy to settle in for a long war like in Syria when Russia's commitment was (from the link in your post)

Russia lost more in one month in Ukraine than it has in all the years it's been bombing rebels in the Syria conflict.

Russia's ship was sunk by an enemy without a real navy?
