I think that is the case. The harpoons we sent them were stripped of “secretive technology” just in case the Russians manage to get hold of one. The Ukrainians did a fine job with the basic missile.

Harpoon cracks ships in two pieces. The Neptunes are an old platform but have some serious upgrades. I suspect they are using the older inventory and keeping the new stuff for later.

Russian state news agency TASS reported Thursday evening that the guided-missile cruiser Moskva had sunk, citing a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense.
“During the towing of the cruiser Moskva to the port of destination, the ship lost its stability due to hull damage received during a fire from the detonation of ammunition. In the conditions of stormy seas, the ship sank,” the statement said, according to TASS.

Doesn't the Russian landing ship that the Ukrainians sank a couple of weeks ago in Berdansk count?

That one I think was salvageable I think because they flooded it and only sank it to 5 feet before the ammo on board could blow.

It would be impossible for a submarine to secretly negotiate the Dardanelles and Bosporus wouldn’t it? Not enough depth and too narrow?

The minimum depth of the Bosporus per Wikipedia is about 43 feet, no way to submerge that shallow. Even scraping the bottom the sail would be half out of the water.

Would Turkey allow a night surfaced transit under cover of darkness without saying anything is another question, but I don’t think the US wants to put that important of an asset in the Black Sea at the moment.

No matter how this turns out I don’t think it is even debatable anymore that Russia vs Ukraine is a much more even match than Russia vs USA would be. Heck you could replace USA with Britain or France and it would probably still be true.
