Reference, for the offensive.

Lt. Col. Fares al-Bayoush, a Syrian army defector, told the Associated Press that he expects a ruthless strategy from the general, where Russian troops will engage in concurrent “rapid battles” around Ukraine.

Retired Adm. James Stavridis told NBC News on Sunday that Dvornikov’s promotion to commander of the Russian forces spells bad news for those hoping to see the conflict reach a quick and peaceful end.

Dvornikov joined the Russian army in 1982 and fought during the second war in Chechnya before his time in Syria. Putin awarded him the title of “Hero of the Russian Federation” in 2016 for his work in Syria, the country’s highest honorary title.

You sure do have a man crush on the butcher.

Changing commanders is not going to make a difference. The reason why it’s not going to make a difference is because Russia is making the same mistakes it made back in February. It’s freaking telling Ukraine what it’s going to do. It didn’t work out for Russia when the Russian morale was high and it won’t work now that the Russian morale is low. Also the Ukrainians have gone up against the Russians and didn’t get smashed like a bug. Their fear of the Russian military might is gone. Not to mention that they are freaking pissed about Bucha and the other war crimes. They are looking forward to the attack so they can kill some more Russian fascists.

The Butcher is not going to fix the poor Russian discipline, unit level tactics, and or the piss poor coordination between Russian armor and their infantry support. Russia’s T72s and T90s have the same range as a Javelin and NLAWs. So if Russia tries to attack Ukraine without fixing how its infantry and armor operate together then it’s going to be a blood bath for the Russians.

Rather long article by Mark Hertling on his observed, at several times closely, differences in the advancement, or lack thereof, between the Ukrainian and Russian armies.

Elements of this have been discussed in here before such as the lack of NCOs in the Russian military, but Hertling provide some firsthand perspective. He discusses 20 years of observations & training. Worth the read, but you’ll need some time.

The Ukies getting American drones with hellfire missiles is going to f**k up the butcher’s plans bigly.

Russia pulling back from Kyiv and moving their forces east cause great issues for Ukraine. Do you abandoned Capitiol area and leave yourself exposed or take it on the chin on eastern front?

With the intelligence we're providing the Ukrainians, they will have ample warning if forces start to mass on their northern border again. I suspect they will leave some forces, probably TDF or battle-depleted units and move the rest east. They will know what units performed well in the north and those will be the top priority for the east.

Yeah, the idiot posted a Feb. 22 map by the BBC in an article "Ukraine: What are Russia's possible attack routes?". Reality has been different. At least he could use an up to date wish map.

About 1,000 Ukrainian marines surrendered at the port of Mariupol, allegedly. The 36th Marines brigade had said on their Facebook page a day or two ago that their final battle was imminent because they were running low on ammunition. "It's death for some of us, and captivity for the rest."

Now Russia is claiming they have surrendered.

LINK

They fought admirably and held out much longer than I thought they could

There are still 1-2 pockets left in Mariupol, I think. Sadly it's just a matter of time before they're forced to surrender, too.

edit: I'm seeing a separate claim that marines from the 36th broke through to join the Azov regiment, so these may be conflicting and mutually exclusive claims.

#Russian propagandists faked a video and overlaid it with
@BBCNews
-style credits to blame #Ukraine for the rocket attacks on civilians in #Kramatorsk. Now this video is being actively rebroadcast by pro-Kremlin propagandists.

There is no such video on the official BBC website.

I like how they say "The same Serial Number was used in other attacks"...don't they know serial numbers are unique?

They also try to get a two for one in the propaganda space with "Zelensky complained when asked about proof of Russian involvement in the Bucha massacre" and then immediately pivot back to the rocket.

I'm sure the usual suspects will be along shortly to post the video as proof that Ukraine is rocketing their own people.
