Most of us on here aren't Right or Left. Our leanings are decided by the specific topic, not the team.

And I'm considered one of the more liberal on here (though most of the time I'm just being contrarian, to make things more lively. Nobody has fun in an echo.), but compared to the Poli-tards and your script, I'm fricking Che Guevara.

Give me a moment to compose myself. I just had an "aha moment" figuring out I'm trying to have a serious discussion with 10 OT outcast neocons.

The conservative movement drifted away from nation-building agenda because it terribly backfired on us. This coming economic recession will remind why fricking with other regional powers is bad for America and really bad for Europe. Our adventures in the ME flooded Europe with refugee crisis that altered the fabric of their society and put us in perpetual debt.

Ya'll have a good night and a good weekend.

Y'all don't learn do you?

Here's a little history lesson for you: America's Isolationist Policy through the 1920's and '30's not only encapsulated a Depression (worse than a Recession), but made sure that it continued long after it should have ended.

The Great Depression ended when America finally dropped that Isolationist Policy.

But you think that enacting a policy like that again will lead to prosperity?

How?

If we cut ourselves off from the World, how will we prosper?

You don't have to be so nasty to people who have a different perspective.

Poli-tards? OT is clearly just as non-interventionalist as Political board, just with the exception of a small minority that is very vocal in this particular thread.

Everyone here has a bias, but it gets tiresome if we're just shitposting at one another. I will try my best to not rustle feathers.

Watching “Servant of the People” on Netflix.

This was the 2015 show Zelensky was a producer for and starred in that somehow lead to actually being elected President.

Interesting as a political satire into oligarchy and Eastern European politics. Notably, the US is shown in a much higher light than Russia or Belarus.

In one scene in episode 3, he has a dream sequence where he is seeking inspiration from Abraham Lincoln on an inauguration speech.

For this to work as a plot device, a significant number of Ukrainians would have to know who Abraham Lincoln is already - and here I have no idea who was running Ukraine (or the land it occupies currently) in 1862

It's easy to ask questions that don't have right or wrong answers.

You're going off the premise that somehow American non-interventionism caused the Dust Bowl and the Great Recession?

Post WWII, MAD diplomacy via nuke deterrent obviously was a big factor. In fact America benefited hugely from WWII, albeit in short term from influx of German and European scientists, engineers, and other talent, as well as capital. It had nothing to do with US intervention in WWII. I would say the American interventionalism and Cold War with USSR is what gave rise to the leftist 1960's movement that spiraled into what it is today.

It wasn't just US who had such approach- it was USSR/Russia who was trying to play world monopoly and failed spectacularly.

If you can find any positives that US gained from conflicts in Nam, Iraq, Syria, and Libia, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, etc... please enlighten me. Every conflict CIA got involved in, spectacularly backfired on us both in short and long term. We can have that discussion but better minds already have laid out why those wars were disastrous for US.

I'm amazed there are still world-police types left in America after historical lessons proving that it just doesn't work. We cannot police the world without sabotaging our own success.

Maybe I am biased. I had a little Ukrainian teen who was either a tourist with his parents or maybe they moved here, deface a Trump sticker on my car a while back in 2015. I noticed someone was scratching my sticker off. I had a manager go through the cameras and we ID'd him. One day I spotted him and his dad and had them fork over $50 for damages. They even tried to argue it was excessive, so I suggest we call cops and report it because I had a video of him vandalizing.

So this is either a completely made up lie OR most of your opinion on an entire country is based off what a moronic teenager did to your bumper sticker.

I never said that.

It did contribute to the prolongment though.

And let's re-arrange your next bit of confused mutterings in the order they should be in:

quote:

It had nothing to do with US intervention in WWII.

The recovery from the Great Depression had everything to do with WW2 and the US intervention.

Suddenly there were jobs where none existed before. Factories sprang up over night to meet the demand of the War effort, and companies that didn't have the capacity to provide jobs before that intervention, suddenly were able to build these factories and employ a workforce to meet the demand of not only the US military and Government, but also those of our allies.

Suddenly, in one day, our country threw off the cloak of isolationism (because it was a Utopian dream, shattered by Japan) and built a manufacturing powerhouse the likes which had never been seen, and still hasn't seen again.

So, yes, WW2 ended the Great Depression.

quote:

. In fact America benefited hugely from WWII, albeit in short term from influx of German and European scientists, engineers, and other talent, as well as capital.

While parts of this are correct, we were getting brilliant European Scientists before the war, during the war, and after the war.

The end of the war fdidn't give us our scientific advantage. It did help to prevent the Soviets from catching up to us, or surpassing us, in that field. Which was possibly the most crucial events in modern history.

quote:

I would say the American interventionalism and Cold War with USSR is what gave rise to the leftist 1960's movement that spiraled into what it is today.

Da frick does this have to do with the topic?

quote:

It wasn't just US who had such approach- it was USSR/Russia who was trying to play world monopoly and failed spectacularly.

And now Chinas is trying to get in the game.

Why do you believe they will beat the US if the USSR couldn't?

quote:

If you can find any positives that US gained from conflicts in Nam, Iraq, Syria, and Libia, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, etc... please enlighten me.

I'll take this one specifically, as my mother grew up there.

We disposed an unpopular dictator who was a Drug Kingpin.

"Invading" Panama wasn't a failure. The failure was turning our backs on the Panamanians after relinquishing the Canal over to them, and basically forcing them to start doing business with China and selling Canal operations and real estate to the Chinese for dirt cheap.

A mistake that they now regret. They would love for us to go back and become their best friend again.

quote:

I'm amazed there are still world-police types left in America after historical lessons proving that it just doesn't work. We cannot police the world without sabotaging our own success.

How are we policing this current conflict? We are just putting Russia in timeout and supporting the little guy who is standing up to the Big Bully.

Trust me on this: if we did decide to get involved in a "World Police" capacity, Russia is fricked. They would fold just as fast, if not faster, than Iraq did.

Russia is preparing the ground for an admission of 8-10k dead (everyone connected knows this number is closer to 17-19k dead) but that would effectively destroy conscription/reinforcements being ordered up. My guy says 50k is a reasonable estimate of DWM but there’s talk of 60k if you include a few variables ie Chernobyl et al. A high end of 100k as tolerable if the messaging is good to great. The pact within a pact is happening, former Soviet satellite states minus Hungary are now informing the traditional western NATO countries that they can’t wait given the history. My old country is full steam ahead. They are leading because of the ammo dump thing back around 2014. In a weird twist BJ/UK is actually quietly partnered with the eastern NATO. LePen France is wildcard for a number of people I speak with. LePen is up to her arse in Russian cash (free low interest loans) in terms of the war based on what I’ve heard this morning Ukrainians won’t be encircled in the Donbas. Especially from the north east. The materials have arrived uninterrupted and continue to arrive. There is a feeling that if this next advance is a draw or if the Ukrainians actually take territory back this will be finished by 1st week in May either as a negotiated settlement or as a shitty little stalemate that occasionally flares up.

He still hasn't said whether we should denazify Russia since they had a large number of collabators and committed war crimes

quote:

As the Red Army advanced, the Kaminski troops were forced to retreat into Belarus, and then into Poland in 1944. There, the RONA was reorganized into an SS brigade, the majority of which were Russians, with the rest comprising other Soviet ethnicities including Ukrainians, Belarusians and Azerbaijanis. In August, 1,700 brigade troops under Major Yuri Frolov were sent to Warsaw to quell an uprising. During it, the RONA troops became infamous for their atrocities, committing murder, rape, and theft. Some were reported to have left the combat zone with carts full of stolen goods. About 400 soldiers were lost in combat, including Frolov.

At the end of August, Bronislav Kaminski was killed. His death was surrounded with mystery as, while official records state that he was killed by Polish partisans, it is believed that Kaminski was executed by the SS. The reasons are thought to be his unit's war crimes and/or now that Heinrich Himmler supported the Russian Liberation Army of General Andrey Vlasov, he wanted to eliminate a potential rival. The rest of the brigade was reformed into the 29th SS Waffen Grenadier Division "RONA", which was disbanded in November 1944. Its remaining 3,000–4,000 members were sent to join Vlasov's army.[6]

Now for current news. Apparently Mariupol is holding out better than thought
quote:

Ukrainian forces continued to hold out against Russian assaults in areas of southwestern and eastern Mariupol as of April 8. The Ukrainian Mayor of Mariupol, Petro Andryushenko, issued a statement on April 8 denying Russian claims that they captured central Mariupol on April 7.[5] Andryushenko said Russian forces control a quarter of the city, including the Drama Theater and SBU headquarters, but that this does not constitute the entire “city center.” Andryushenko highlighted that most videos of Russian forces have been geolocated to Mariupol’s outskirts and said Ukrainian forces control the Primorsky District (southwest Mariupol), part of the east bank of the Azovstal District (central Mariupol), the coastline southwest of the city down to Azovs’ke, and several factory areas.

Social media footage depicted Russian and proxy forces conducting assaults on the Azovstal Steel Plant from April 7-8 and pro-Russian sources claimed 3,000 Ukrainian forces remain in the facility, confirming that Ukrainian forces retain a foothold in eastern Mariupol, which Russian forces previously claimed to have captured.[6] Ukrainian forces additionally released footage geolocated to eastern Mariupol of combat with Russian forces on April 8.[7]

Britain to send Ukraine arms to protect Odesa coast

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson intends to supply Ukraine with weapons that would help the country thwart Putin's plans to occupy its southern part from the sea.

The United Kingdom is pushing to arm Ukraine with anti-ship missiles to sink Russian warships and “relieve” coastal cities that are now being bombarded from the sea.

Johnson told officials he planned to supply weapons to Ukraine to prevent Russian invaders from advancing on Odesa, just as he had done by providing British NLAW anti-tank missiles to defend Kyiv.
