When the American president steps down as the leader of the free world, tells our allies to shove off, cozies up to Vladimir Putin, starts a worldwide trade war, refuses to make a call to Gov. Walz or the family of assassinated Melissa Hortman, doubles his wealth since his inauguration, lets Elon Musk take a battering ram to federal government, assembles the least experienced cabinet in history, floats his idea of a third term, holds a military parade on his birthday, etc., you have to wonder who the anti-American is here.

ISW Update June 18 2025

quote:

Key Takeaways:

Russian forces conducted an at least platoon-sized mechanized assault in the Toretsk direction on June 17.

The Kremlin likely aims to use the ongoing St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) to support ongoing efforts to consolidate control over the information space and prepare Russian society for a prolonged war effort.

The Kremlin also aims to use SPIEF to promote Kremlin narratives to Western audiences.

Ukraine's Western partners continue to supply Ukraine with military aid and announce new sanctions packages against Russia.

The Kremlin continues to crack down on critical Russian milbloggers as part of its years-long effort to censor and control the Russian information space.

Russian forces advanced in northern Sumy and Kharkiv oblasts and near Chasiv Yar and Toretsk.

June 18 2024

quote:

Key Takeaways:

Russian President Vladimir Putin published an article in North Korean state-owned newspaper Rodong Sinmun praising Russian–North Korean cooperation on the eve of his visit to North Korea, likely to frame any future support that North Korea will lend to Russia as part of a common struggle against the West.

Ukrainian forces struck Russian oil depots in Rostov Oblast and Krasnodar Krai overnight on June 17 to 18, using domestically produced Neptune missiles against a ground target in Russia for the second time.

Ukrainian forces have now conducted two strikes with its own Neptune missiles against areas in Russian territory that are within range of US-provided ATACMS but that are also protected by US policy that has established a vast sanctuary in Russian territory.

The Russian government is charging Ukrainian servicemen and military officials with crimes in absentia as part of its efforts to enforce Russian federal law outside of its jurisdiction and insinuate that Ukraine should not exist as an independent state.

Founder of the Kremlin-linked Rybar Telegram Channel, Mikhail Zvinchuk, gave his second uncharacteristically public interview within a month in which he criticized the state of Russia's war effort in Ukraine and acknowledged that Western sanctions are negatively affecting Russia's industry and economy.

Russian forces recently marginally advanced near Vovchansk, Svatove, and Avdiivka

Russian President Vladimir Putin continues efforts to groom Russian military personnel for positions in the Russian government through the Kremlin's "Time of Heroes" program.

Russian occupation officials continue their efforts to militarize Ukrainian youth in occupied Ukraine.

June 18 2023
quote:

Key Takeaways

Ukrainian forces continued counteroffensive actions on at least four sectors of the front on June 18 and made limited territorial gains.

Ukrainian forces may be temporarily pausing counteroffensive operations to reevaluate their tactics for future operations.

A Wall Street Journal (WSJ) interview with Russian prisoners of war (POWs) indicates continued significant morale and command issues among frontline Russian units and the continued Russian use of “barrier forces” to shoot retreating soldiers.

EU Internal Market Commissioner Theirry Breton announced on June 18 that the EU is accelerating arms deliveries to Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly supported select Russian milbloggers’ proposal to create a Presidential Administration working group, likely in an effort to integrate prominent milbloggers into the pro-Kremlin information space.

Russian forces conducted limited ground attacks north of Svatove and south of Kreminna.

Russian and Ukrainian forces conducted limited ground attacks around Bakhmut and along the Avdiivka-Donetsk City line.

Ukrainian forces continued counteroffensive operations on the administrative border between western Donetsk and eastern Zaporizhia oblasts.

Russian sources claimed that Russian forces continued to repel Ukrainian counteroffensive operations in western Zaporizhia Oblast

Some Russian ultranationalist figures are concerned that the Russian Ministry of Defense’s efforts to formalize volunteer formations will trigger command changes and degrade combat effectiveness.

Russian occupation officials are continuing to prioritize medical treatment for Russian military personnel in occupied Mariupol, reportedly significantly increasing the civilian mortality rate in the city.

June 18 2022
quote:

Key Takeaways

Russian forces secured minor gains on the outskirts of Severodonetsk and likely advanced into Metolkine, but Russian operations remain slow.

Russian forces continued efforts to interdict Ukrainian lines of communication along the T1302 Bakhmut-Lysychansk highway and conducted ground and artillery strikes along the highway.

Russian forces seek to push Ukrainian forces out of artillery range of railway lines around Kharkiv City used to supply Russian offensive operations toward Slovyansk.

Russian forces did not take any confirmed actions along the Southern Axis and continue to face partisan pressure in occupied areas of southern Ukraine.

None dare call it treason...? Not in Ukraine, not now, not ever.

After 2022, he voluntarily went to cooperate with the Russian invaders and received a position in the occupation administration - he was the so-called acting mayor and at the same time deputy for infrastructure, housing and utilities and the fuel and energy complex.

Involved in war crimes — terrorized the population of the occupied city, betrayed pro-Ukrainian citizens to Muscovites, participated in organizing torture in the territory of Berdyansk.

Poland's electoral commission has said that there were "major irregularities" in the second round of the recent presidential election, won narrowly by Karol Nawrocki. Votes appear to have been recorded wrongly, or transferred to the wrong candidate.

Nawrocki, a pro-Trump figure representing the right-wing PiS party, won by only 360,000 votes. The National Election Commission says there were "incidents that could have an impact on the outcome of the vote" requiring "an in-depth analysis of the reasons".

It highlights "the occurrence of repetitive errors in the protocols of some district election commissions consisting in incorrect assignment of the number of votes cast for individual candidates" and has referred the matter to Poland's Supreme Court.

Problems have been identified in 50 electoral regions, in which there were concerns that votes had been wrongly assigned. Most notably, in a district of Krakow known as a stronghold of the rival Civic Platform party, Nawrocki's vote increased by 500%. He won in a landslide.

The vote for a neighbouring district, also a Civil Platform stronghold, was held in the same building. In this instance, Nawrocki's vote remained consistent with the first round and he lost by 63.84% to 36.16%. He won only 26% in another neighbouring district.

Similar problems have been reported across Poland, where the increase in Nawrocki's results amounted to as much as 400% in some areas. This would require not only his own voters to stick with him, but for significant numbers of Civic Platform voters to have voted for him.

The electoral commission says that the problem appears to have arisen in transferring the data from the paper count of ballots to the national electoral computer system. The data was entered by an operator who received it from the electoral district chairman.

Usually only the chairman and operator were present for this, with the data transmitted verbally or in writing. The computer system worked alphabetically and always listed Nawrocki first for data entry, ahead of Civic Platform candidate Rafal Trzaskowski.

However, the paper count in each district could list either Nawrocki or Trzaskowski first, depending on who had the highest number of votes. It's suspected that in districts where Trzaskowski won, his votes were erroneously entered for Nawrocki.

To make matters worse, it's reported that nobody checked whether the data was entered into the system correctly, despite the entire electoral commission for each district signing off the results.

It's unclear what will happen next. The Supreme Court's Control Chamber says it will check the results for 13 districts. A complicating factor is that the Control Chamber is comprised of so-called 'neo-judges' – PiS supporters installed irregularly to control the judiciary.

During its time in office, PiS created quasi-judicial bodies such as the Control Chamber, stacked with its own supporters. European tribunals, the Supreme Court itself and the government say that the Control Chamber is not a valid court of law.

/end

This could be misinformation as all sources quote one Polish news organization, Wyborcza. If accurate, the Polish courts will have a mess on their hands. Considering overturing this result at such a late date may be beyond their pay grade.

Tories and the loyalists fought each other? Really? Are you sure? maybe if you're going to criticize someone's point know what the frick you're talking about next time

States actually could secede in 1860. Though it was more "there isn't a law to stop us" vs "it's actually allowed". And even then most states voted via referendum and not by popular vote.

The point wasn't that we have been holding hands and singing songs for 250 years, but in general Americans shared some ideals with each other and disagreed respectfully. We didn't think the other side was Hitler or baby killers, now we do.

Or maybe there are people who love this country and can read obvious signs. If you don't think we've been heading downhill for a while now you haven't been paying attention.

Can we course correct? I believe so. But it'll be difficult.

Maybe before you tell the world that this is the worst time ever in American history you should reflect on just how bad things were at times way when because things have been much worse.

quote:

but in general Americans shared some ideals with each other and disagreed respectfully.

BS. Americans fought their neighbors. They killed their neighbors. Disagreeing respectfully isn’t organizing militias, armies and attacking other American citizens. Disagreeing respectfully? You know Americans have done a lot of horrible things just because people were not like them or that other Americans disagreed with them.
