Finally a job he's qualified for... just don't let him manage the location (he'll bankrupt it).

Maybe Putin is still upset over US & Western support for the "White" Russians of the Russian Civil War?

Key Takeaways:
Ukrainian forces conducted drone strikes against the Lipetsk-2 Air Base near Lipetsk City and Russian state-owned defense enterprise Sverdlov in Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast on the night of October 19 to 20.
Moldovan authorities have yet to announce the results of the October 20 presidential election and European Union (EU) referendum, but both the election and referendum have passed the required voter turnout threshold to be valid.
Russian sources claimed on October 20 that former Russian Yukos Oil Company Vice President for Corporate Management Mikhail Rogachev was found dead in a possible suicide after falling from a window in Moscow.
Ukrainian forces recently advanced north of Sudzha and Russian forces recently marginally advanced near Toretsk and Selydove.

If the Allies had been serious about supporting the Whites, the aid scheme would have been much larger, and they would have sent large armies to fight in Russia.
It was partly war weariness, they were also more concerned with Germany than Russia, the Whites themselves were not broadly liked either, these were reactionary conservative aristocrats, and then there was also strong support for the Bolsheviks within the West, especially from the Jewish community.
One off the major themes of Putin's first 15 years in office was symbolically ending the civil war.
quote:
On May 24 Russian Prime minister Vladimir Putin visited the Sretensk Monastery’s cemetery in Moscow, laying flowers on the graves of the White Russian generals Anton Denikin and Vladimir Kappel; emigre nationalist philosopher and the leading ideologist of the White cause Ivan Ilyin, emigre writer Ivan Shmelyev and Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. The remains of Denikin, Ilyin, Shmelev and Kappel had been reinterred in Moscow in the 2000’s from graves in the United States, Switzerland, France and China respectively in a symbolic gesture of healing the Russian civil war rift.
Putin arranged for the repatriation of their remains.
Baron Wrangel is still buried in Belgrade, but that was his final wish.

British Defence Intelligence
UPDATE ON UKRAINE
INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
21 October 2024
On 7 October 2024, Russian media reported that prosecutors have brought additional charges against former Deputy Defence Minister Timur Ivanov, who was previously charged in April 2024. The first of these cases involves the alleged embezzlement of 200m roubles (~$2m USD) during the procurement of two ships for the Kerch strait ferry line, which have subsequently been damaged during the war. The second is the alleged embezzlement of 3bn roubles (~$200m USD) from Interkommerts bank while facilitating or directing the purchase of foreign currency.
Charges continue to stack up against former senior Russian defence officials as part of what now seems to be a major crackdown on embezzlement by senior officials below executive or cabinet level.
Russian media also reports that eight officials holding general officer ranks have been dismissed from agencies including the Investigative Committee, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the Federal Penitentiary Service. Independent Russian media speculates that this is due to impending corruption charges. If true, this a potential indicator that corruption crackdowns are spreading from their previous narrow focus on the defence sector.

Russia acknowledges Black Sea Fleet's escape from Crimea
The Russian Black Sea Fleet has left Crimea. The main reason for this, as it turns out, is the drone attacks by the Ukrainian forces.
As reported by Ukrinform, Russian senator Dmitry Rogozin stated this according to Meduza.
According to the Russian politician, the Black Sea Fleet was forced to ‘change its registration’ due to the Ukrainian drones.
"The Black Sea Fleet was essentially forced to change its registration because our large ships had become just big targets for the enemy's unmanned boats," said Rogozin.
It was previously reported that Dmitry Rogozin, a Russian politician who once headed the state corporation Roscosmos, had proposed striking Ukraine with a space rocket.

Moldova has voted yes to joining the EU by a tiny margin.
Excellent news.
“Moldova faces a tug of war between Russia and the West in two crucial votes.
CNN reported last week on the efforts of a Kremlin-linked network, spearheaded by the exiled Moldovan oligarch Ilan Shor, to buy votes in Moldova, aiming to sway the results of the EU referendum.
In a video posted to his Telegram account last month, Shor had said he would pay voters the equivalent of $28 for registering with his campaign and more if they voted against the referendum.
Sandu said Moldovan authorities had “clear evidence that these criminal groups aimed to buy 300,000 votes – a fraud of “unprecedented assault” by foreign actors on the country’s democracy.

That was probably a mistake, but the Roosevelt Administration had a lot communists in it. Might have been better to let Germany exhaust itself like a python trying to swallow an elephant.

US to provide Ukraine with $800 million for drone production, Zelensky says
by Olena Goncharova October 22, 2024 1:25 AM
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Oct. 21 that the U.S. will provide $800 million in military aid to Ukraine, aimed at funding the production of drones to strengthen the country's defense capabilities.
"Every meeting with our partners involves discussions about the defense-industrial complex," Zelensky said in his evening address. "We need Ukraine to be able to defend its sovereignty and independence regardless of any political threats in the world."
The announcement followed Zelensky's meeting with U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin in Kyiv, where the Pentagon chief announced a new $400 million military assistance package for Ukraine. The package included HIMARS air defense systems and 155 mm artillery ammunition, among other weapons and training equipment.

ISW Update Oct 21

Key Takeaways:
Moldova's October 20 European Union (EU) referendum passed by an extremely narrow margin in large part due to support from the Moldovan diaspora, and current Moldovan President Maia Sandu will face Alexandr Stoianoglo in a second round of voting on November 3. Several Moldovan and European officials reported potential Russian interference in the election, and the Kremlin and its affiliates in Moldova will likely continue their malign influence efforts in the leadup to the November 3 runoff.
Kremlin officials and Russian milbloggers claimed that Moldovan authorities falsified the results of the election and referendum and continued to promote long-standing Kremlin narratives targeting Moldova's path towards European integration.
US Secretary of Defense Llyod Austin travelled to Kyiv on October 21 and announced a new $400 million military aid package for Ukraine.
Russia appears to be scrambling to reduce tensions with South Korea following credible reports of intensified North Korean cooperation with Russia, including South Korean and Ukrainian intelligence warnings that a contingent of North Korean troops has deployed for training to Russia.
Russian forces continue to systematically perpetrate war crimes, including the continued executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) and use of chemical weapons.
Ukrainian forces recently advanced in the western part of the Kursk Oblast salient.
Russian forces advanced west of Kreminna, southeast of Pokrovsk, and southeast of Kurakhove.
Russian forces recently conducted several mechanized attacks of various echelons in the Kurakhove direction.
Russian occupation authorities continue to coerce occupied Ukrainian populations into signing contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD).

Russia appears to be scrambling to reduce tensions with South Korea following credible reports of intensified North Korean cooperation with Russia, including South Korean and Ukrainian intelligence warnings that a contingent of North Korean troops has deployed for training to Russia. South Korea's Foreign Ministry summoned Russia's Ambassador to South Korea, Georgy Zinoviev, over reports of the deployment of North Korean military personnel to Russia.[12] The Russian Embassy in South Korea falsely framed the event as a voluntary meeting, as opposed to a diplomatic summons, and notably claimed that any cooperation between Russia and North Korea "is not directed against the security interests" of Seoul.[13] Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov claimed that Russia-North Korea cooperation "should not cause concern" to other states, and that information about the alleged presence of North Korean troops in Russia may be "contradictory."[14] The Kremlin's apparent desire to assure South Korea that its cooperation with North Korea is not a threat to Seoul suggests that the Kremlin remains very concerned about the prospect of Seoul's potential pivot towards providing Ukraine with necessary military support, and the implications of worsened relations with Seoul for Russian security interests in the Asia Pacific region. Russia has previously attempted to court Seoul in order to mitigate the impacts of its growing reliance on North Korea, as ISW has noted.[15]

That’s the problem. This isn’t 1984 it’s 2024 and hiding wasted taxpayer money going towards a fantasy isn’t as easy to hide as it was 40 years ago. Supporting Ukraine in a war they didn’t start and also understanding what could happen at anytime if a TRUE KILLER/MADMAN gets up on the wrong side of the bed isn’t some crazy conspiracy, it’s common sense. It’s also a fact that damn near all of us were lucky enough to be born and raised and currently live in the best country the world has ever known. At the same time I’m always going to be America first, and that was long before a former President started the MAGA movement. Peace through strength is a thing, but so are American citizens that get the runaround compared to people that just showed up. Governments, Dictators, Terrorist Organizations across the world keep the war machine alive because the American taxpayer pays for it.

That's a shitton of word salad.
Projection of power globally has kept the US the leading power in the world for decades. Unless you are wealthy, you wouldn't be able to afford half of what you might own without what the US has provided globally for decades.
