It would seem to me that the Norks' declaring war on Ukraine should be big news in the US, but that's obviously just me.
quote:
The National Intelligence Service said it has confirmed that a soldier standing next to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in August last year using artificial intelligence (AI) facial recognition technology is currently active on the front lines of Russia and Ukraine.
The National Intelligence Service said in a press release on the 18th, "Through cooperation with Ukrainian intelligence agencies, we have recently secured photos of suspected North Korean soldiers who are believed to be active on the front lines of Russia and Ukraine."
The North Korean soldier identified by the NIS was recently found in a photo taken with a Russian soldier at the KN-23 (North Korean version of Iskander missile) launch site near the Donetsk region.
The soldier was wearing a Russian military uniform, but the NIS said that after applying its own AI facial recognition technology, it was identified as a North Korean missile engineer who accompanied Kim when he visited the North Korean tactical missile production plant in August last year.
The National Intelligence Service added, "The similarity of characters in AI facial recognition technology has been shown to be more than 80%, which means that they are virtually the same person."
The NIS then analyzed, "North Korean missile engineers deployed to the front lines of Russia and Ukraine are supporting the launch of North Korean-made missiles, and through this, they appear to be attempting to identify technical problems and secure additional technology."
It would seem to me that the Norks' declaring war on Ukraine should be big news in the US, but that's obviously just me.

Glad to see the South Koreans going public with this. The US administration is trying to downplay the Norks joining the fight.

Jompy monitors satellite pics of Russian supply depots. As has repeatedly been said, Russia is now beginning to employ a lower level of combat power from artillery, as their supply bases have been stripped dry. The loss of combat power from armored vehicles is next, but those shortages likely won't have an impact on the battlefield until the spring.
For the unfamiliar, the BRDM-2 entered Soviet service in 1962. It has thin armor that offers little protection, and the only hatch is in the front of the vehicle, meaning that if the vehicle drives into a mess and gets hit and immobilized, the only way for the crew to get out is right where the enemy can see and hit them.

I make a lighthearted comment and you go off.
Sure I think our govt. should police things better. They should know where the donated arms are going. But I also know this, the govt. can’t deliver the mail, they can’t get aid to families in desperate need, and they can’t guard presidential candidates. Why should I be surprised they couldn’t account for all the arms given to Ukraine?
There are leeches all through government endeavors. They are here and abroad. They take advantage of the various initiatives any way they can. It starts with gaining access. It continues with inside deals. Sending 150 billion in arms to Ukraine and losing track of just 1 billion is actually pretty good for our govt. The Pentsgon probably loses that much every week.

While it's too early to make conclusions on the possible direct North Korean involvement in the war and it's implications, I don't think it should be underestimated.
The world seems to be shifting while the West dithers.
There is also the question of what NK gets in return.
And for the record: That this should trigger Western intervention is a fantasy.
What's needed is a radical change in Western support for Ukraine. The current trajectory isn't positive.

Trump may be right... Putin might not have invaded Ukraine if Trump was re-elected... because Trump would've pulled the US out of NATO... so Putin would just be nice enough to wait until Trump left office to invade Ukraine and the Baltic states.

Yea, the guys on here saying Trump is not going to fold the tent on Ukraine are engaging in wishful thinking. And nobody with any authority in the GOP is going to oppose him. Johnson and Vance have both stated they're against further aid to Ukraine, and McConnell is stepping down from his leadership of the Senate Republican Conference.
Maybe the EU will be able to support Ukraine on its own, I don't know. But the long term blowback will be multiple new nuclear powers and a loss of American influence to determine how and where those weapons will potentially be used. This will make the world more dangerous, including for The US.
Yep. I talk to people all the time - on the further out Left and Right - who naively say "If we just get the frick out of the rest of the world we won't have any problems. Just leave everything alone." That has never worked... the world has only known peace on a broad scale in the time when the US had to accept that we were the "Godfather," not that we didn't do some downright stupid crap that bit us in the arse...

Yep. This right here:
Well...
I'm of the opinion that WWIII got slowly and quietly underway the day Putin took power... we just fell asleep.
Israel and South Korea were both on the sidelines regarding Ukraine...
But now Iran and North Korea are firmly in league with Putin.
So Israel and South Korea are no longer on the sidelines.
Israel's "retaliation" against Iran for the recent attack will not be the same "throw a bunch of missiles towards Tehran" approach... that's not how they do things. Our government was a bit "hey, Bibi, calm down and take it a bit easy..." but now there's silence... and what do you bet the retaliation is to destroy all the factories making Shaheed drones and missiles and other arms, along with upping their assassination program against anybody in Iran with the knowledge that keeps those programs running? And that will impact Russia in Ukraine, won't it?
Who knows exactly what South Korea will do other than supply intel... but the reality is the NK shells and missiles as so crappy they're destroying Russian tubes and launchers as much as Ukrainians are when they try to use them. If the NK troops get slaughtered on the front lines, that helps South Korea...

In fact, russia excels at it.
One of the many times...
It is important to note that this stuff was going on pre-Putin... to an extent, it really is just "Russia." Regardless of who is in charge, they're insecure about its security from invasions, especially as its demography collapses, meaning fewer military personnel in the years to come. I mean, who wants to invade Russia in modern times (except maybe Poland, just for revenge, and China wants some Eastern parts that Russia doesn't seem to care about)? But they don't see it that way.

The point is that any unit without untracked extras has shitty leadership.
The same goes for any manufacturing plant. Bean counters are the bane of any successful facility. That's why no one at point of use wants them to know shiite.
Now do Russia whose shiite fails often.

What policy is that?
Russia has been expanding and contracting for over 400 years. We've only affected their trajectory twice:
In 1940/41/42 when we single handedly kept them alive via material and food so they could fight back against the German invasion.
And in the 1980s when Reagan baited them into an arms race that broke them.
Other than that we have pretty much left Russia alone

Iran is doubtlessly asking for help with its nuclear program. Is there anybody left in Russia who can share that technology, though?
If North Korea starts test "hypersonic missiles," we'll know what they asked for...
