Ukraine confirms strike on Russian ferry in Crimea port

23.07.2024 20:50

The General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces confirmed the destruction of the Slavyanin ferry in the temporarily occupied Crimea’s port of Kavkaz.

That’s according to the General Staff’s post on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

"Another outcome of the coordinated action by our Defense Forces: the invaders’ ferry was significantly damaged in the port of Kavkaz," the statement reads.

The General Staff noted that today, the Navy, jointly with the units from other elements of Ukraine’s defense forces, inflicted “significant damage” on the enemy ferry, Slavyanin, in the Kavkaz port.

"The invaders had been using this ferry to transport railway cars, motor vehicles, and containers for military purposes. The Slavyanin is the third and last railway ferry that Russia had in the specified region. We continue to destroy the enemy, their equipment and military infrastructure," the General Staff emphasized.

Ukraine’s soldiers training on Starstreak – here’s why it’s so deadly

by Chris York July 23, 2024 11:41 PM

So how does it work?

Starstreak is a man-portable, air-defense system (MANPAD), a shoulder-fired, fire-and-forget weapon ideal for ambushing enemy aircraft from short range (up to 7 kilometers) and then making a quick exit.

Other similar systems used by Ukraine's armed forces include the U.S.-made Stinger, the Swedish-made RBS 70, and the Soviet-era Igla.

But what makes the Starstreak unique is the StarStreak Short Range Air Defense (SHORAD) High Velocity Missile.

The "missile" is actually three tungsten darts attached to a rocket motor which, when launched, are accelerated to more than Mach 3.0 (3,700 kph), making it the fastest weapon of its type in the world.

I wonder what the criteria for a lock is? Could it say lock onto a vehicle? That would mess up a light armored vehicle. Kinda like that round Trump used to kill that Iranian general. No explosion, just very fast moving steel

Key Takeaways:

The Russian State Duma proposed an amendment that would allow commanders to punish subordinates for using personal communications and navigation devices at the frontline, prompting significant milblogger backlash and highlighting how Russian forces continue to struggle with command and control (C2) issues and overreliance on insecure technologies to conduct combat operations in Ukraine.

Ukrainian forces reportedly conducted drone strikes against a ferry crossing in Kavkaz, Krasnodar Krai on the night of July 22 to 23.

Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed a new Deputy Head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Services on July 22, and there were several personnel changes within the Russian State Duma on July 23.

Russian forces recently marginally advanced near Siversk, Avdiivka, and Donetsk City.

Russian regional officials are continuing to increase financial incentives to entice more men to fight in Ukraine.

Russian occupation officials continue to rely on Russian security organs for law enforcement and filtration functions in occupied Ukraine aimed at degrading pro-Ukrainian sentiment.

I saw a Pravda news item that indicated Russia had blown up an Ukraine storage depot and managed to kill 25 French special forces and about 15 other European military personnel. Not able to confirm with a second cite but that would be a serious loss for the frogs

Found a couple other reports and it indicates it was 25 British SAS saboteurs and 15 frogs. Total British inventory of people with this skill set is about 200, so 25 kia is a very large impact

I don't think Putin will go for the carrot. If It were Biden offering the carrot I would agree. Trump showed multiple times during his administration that he does not frick around when it comes to foreign policy. He will negotiate with anyone in the world, but he also has the rep that he is unpredictable and will go farther than a 'normal' president would.

Putin won’t go for the carrot. He can’t justify 100,000-500,000 or however many casualties Russia has suffered as well as the economic damage that Russia has experienced for anything short of everything east of the Dnieper and removal of the Zelensky government and replacing it with a pro-Russian one. As long as Putin is alive, a peace deal will not be reached and Trump will end up giving Ukraine more aid and the melt will be epic.

British Defence Intelligence
INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 24 July 2024

Open-source reporting highlights that on the 07 July 2024, Ukrainian forces conducted a drone strike against a Russian ammunition storage depot near Sergeerka, Voronezh Oblast. This attack resulted in the near total destruction of ammunition and equipment stored in open bermed areas as well as buildings located at the facility.

This is a significant loss at a depot that reportedly covered approximately 9 square kilometres. The depot was highly likely storing a mixture of surface-to-surface munitions as well as small arms to be used by personnel on the frontlines. This will further stretch Russia's already struggling logistics chains and force yet more dispersals due to the continued threat of Ukrainian strikes. This incident further highlights Russia's continued inability to protect key locations in an area that boasts a densely layered Air Defence posture, some 80km from the Ukraine border. Such shortcomings will almost certainly see further losses to other well-planned Ukrainian strikes.

Russia can ill afford such losses considering the attritional warfare strategy it has adopted, which shows little regard for the lives of its soldiers. This approach requires huge amounts of ammunition. Russia is now relying on its limited foreign partners for this supply due to its own defence industry struggling to meet the frontline demand.

A rather interesting opinion about the ban on gadgets in the Russian army was expressed by Storm Z penal battalion instructor. According to him, first of all, this is a cynical calculation to reduce the number of videos that “discredit” the Russian army, as well as a way to replenish penal battalions against the backdrop of a declining level of recruitment of new soldiers.

Moreover, he believes that the Russian leadership currently believes in its own powers and banks on the possibility of a quick breakthrough of the Ukrainian defense, and therefore does not change its approach to meat assaults, which lead to significant losses.

Nevertheless, the instructor does not completely agree with the opinion of his leadership.

Hungary Blocks €6.5 Billion EU Payment to Ukraine Over Oil Transit Ban

Hungary has blocked the disbursement of €6.5 billion to Ukraine from the European Peace Fund until Kyiv allows the Russian company Lukoil to resume oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline to Hungary. This announcement was made by Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó in an interview with ATV News.

“Until Ukraine lifts the ban, forget about the €6.5 billion payment from the European Peace Fund,” Szijjártó stated.

Josep Borrell, the EU’s High Representative, criticized the situation, calling it “shameful” that one country’s veto prevents the transfer of already allocated funds to Ukraine. “As for the European Peace Fund, you know, I’ve lost hope that it can be unblocked. For more than a year now, we’ve been asked to put pressure, to find solutions, to do other things… But these days it’s a shame. Just a shame,” Borrell remarked.

No you got it wrong. They captured a 3* US General along with hundreds of his troops. They're all now fighting on the Russian side.

It was obviously the 3* who gave up the information on where that HIMARS was hiding on the second floor of the shopping mall.

I wonder what happens should Ukraine not renew the contract expiring this year for natural gas transit to Hungary? They are going to freeze as bad as Russian propaganda claimed Europe was going to freeze in 2022/23 if not worse.

NEW YORK — The Treasury Department ordered the nation’s banking industry to start disclosing its holdings of Russian assets on Tuesday, with the goal of eventually seizing those billions of dollars in assets and selling them to aid the devastated Ukrainian economy.

The disclosure is required under a new law passed by Congress earlier this year known as the REPO Act, which gives the U.S. government the authority to seize Russian state assets held by U.S. banks, with the goal of eventually selling them and giving those funds to Ukraine.

While the vast bulk of Russian assets are held in Europe, it is estimated that the U.S. banking system holds as much as $6 billion in Russian assets in trust. Banks will need to report Russian assets on their books no later than Aug. 2 to the Office of Foreign Assets Control. If a bank discovers any new Russian assets on their books after the deadline, those assets need to be reported within 10 days, the Treasury Department said.

LINK

My Oh My, that's "the authority to seize Russian state assets held by U.S. banks, with the goal of eventually selling them and giving those funds to Ukraine". Not transfer the investment returns but the entire assets.

The banking industry and their legal reps may protest quietly behind closed doors, but when the US Treasury speaks you're listening to the Masters of the Universe. They set all risk baselines and make all the rules. The Russians have never accepted that, which is why they're Russians.
