British Defence Intelligence
INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 25 May 2024
Russian Deputy Chief of the General Staff Gen-Lt Vadim Shamarin was reported on 23 May 2024 as having been detained on suspicion of taking large bribes. He faces charges under article 290 part 6 of the Russian Criminal Code (taking a bribe on a particularly large scale).
This follows recent arrests of other senior Russian Ministry of Defence (MOD) figures also suspected of corruption, namely Deputy Defence Minister Timur Ivanov, and Head of Personnel Yury Kuznetsov.
These arrests have all occurred since Sergey Shoygu was dismissed from his post as Defence Minister on 12 May 2024. Shamarin has headed the Russian MOD Directorate of Communications since 2021. One of his predecessors in this role, Gen-Col Khalil Arslanov, was also prosecuted on corruption charges back in 2020. Corruption is deeply rooted in the Russian MOD, and it is likely that there will be further arrests.

bullshite, you seem like the type of queer to have one of those “NOT FOR HIRE - TRAVELING” license plates.

You are laughable. Russia has taken a good portion of the country. 20% of Ukraine has left, 100s of thousands more are dead or wounded. The destruction is approaching half a trillion dollars. Their economy is a disaster (though the prognosticators love to throw in the 100s of billions in US support as part of their GDP).
That’s why Russia must be stopped.

Scratch another Su-25. That’s 8 for the month of May alone. This is getting sad if it wasn’t so comical.

If you notice, the Ukraine truthers don’t have good arguments against most of the main points the people wanting this to end/wanting the aid fountain turned off…. Even the more loony posters.
They just attack you personally, or they find something to nitpick so they can take attention away from your main points that they have no solid rebuttal for. Or they just entirely make up your positions and attack those, like yesterday when I was misquoted, provided proof, and didn’t even get a “my bad” in return.
I couldn’t imagine being so devoid of morality that I would be actively cheering for this nonsense to continue like some of those in here.
I hope this ends swiftly and Ukraine gets an awesome deal. Russia had some valid gripes with Ukraine and the west, but that isn’t an excuse to invade and start this whole mess. I just think “saving” Ukraine is going to lead us to a much more unstable world in the future, and at tremendous cost in the short term.

MSM hasn't done us any favors saying for two years that Ukraine is winning at every turn while this thing drags on.
Hard agree

That said, it appears we are at a scary point where each side is staggered and trying to deliver a haymaker.
Puffing up chests before going to the table, like I’ve been saying. We will see if the west changes the trajectory of any talks or not again, or if Russia actually intends to negotiate in good faith.

A friend in Kiev put it recently, people hate the conscription officers more than they hate the Russian.
It’s over
It’s over

Change attacked to threatened and it's an easy sell given it is true.
Can you cite any example of NATO actually threatening Russia or is this the standard "NATO got bigger so that's a threat" argument?

There are some.in this thread that are far more concerned with the security of Ukraine's border than they are with their own nation. They worry more about Europe's border/security than they do our own. That is just sad. An illegal invasion.of their own nation has been allowed/encouraged and enabled by this corrupt administration. It is nothing short of treason and not fulfilling the the oath of the office. . And if you say anything negative about how this is being conducted or about Biden they call you anti-American. They actually say that you hate America. Now isn't that ironic.
They don't get why people are so pissed. The government can spend 9 trillion in shitholes like Iraq and Afghanistan and they both turn out to be disasters. The government can spend billions.on the security of Europeans but doesn't have 5 billion to spend on the security of its own border? And it allows, encourages and enables the illegal invasion of millions into this nation. What other nation allows this? This is total madness and the destruction of a nation.

russians bombed a building supply store in Kharkiv today while it was open for business...reports of a lot of people inside

Russia hits a Kharkiv analogue of "Home Depot" (or "Baumarkt" in Germany) with two heavy bombs. Note: people in Kharkiv buy construction materials here to repair their houses damaged by Russian bombs, like installing new windows. #LetUkraineHitRussiaBack

I hope our dumb administration doesn't telegraph the arrival of F16s. It should be a little bit of a surprise.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy /
@ZelenskyyUa
Russia has launched another brutal attack on our Kharkiv – on a construction hypermarket, on Saturday, right in the middle of the day.
As of now, it is believed that more than 200 people were in the hypermarket. All the emergency services are already on the site and providing assistance, rescuing people, and extinguishing the fire that has completely engulfed the building – 10,000 square meters. There are killed and injured people.
If Ukraine had sufficient air defense systems and modern combat aircraft, Russian strikes like this one would have been impossible. And that is why we appeal to all leaders, to all states: we need a significant enhancement of air defense and sufficient capabilities to destroy Russian terrorists.
This is a task that must be accomplished and can only be accomplished together with the world. Every day, we call on the world to provide us with air defense and to save our people. Every unmade decision to support us results in the loss of our people.
