drawdown budget approved my congress has predominantly gone to pre-existing stocks. However, it also includes more modern munitions and some newer equipment.
some of the newer munitions/equipment was about to hit its life cycle, but yes, there are some that the military will need to replace from their regular budget.
because we are schedule to destroy all our cluster munitions, those should be a no brainer to give to Ukraine. Older M113, Bradleys and older M1A1s, can be given without hurting our standing power, and we knock their maintenance/storage costs from the books in the process.

The real news is Russia is planning to retreat.
There is 1000% chance that these plans were made almost a year ago. You’re just reading about it now. It’s not like the Russians saw something they didn’t like and had a meeting last night to plan on an out.
Besides, Ukraine isn’t even close to taking Tokmak.

Ukraine doesn't need to take Tomak for russia to pull our assets/resources of value. They just need to make it untenable by putting it in conventional artillery range, and bringing the supply route to Tomak under HIMARS range,

The roads into Tokmak have always been in HIMARS range. Even in the range of a lot of conventional artillery.
I think a lot of you fail to realize just how little Ukraine has advanced. It’s almost insignificant.

and theres nothing wrong in admitting that the benefits will outweigh the costs in the long run
This is correct. The benefits are massive and overwhelmingly outweigh the costs.
Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to leave this board and spend a couple of days educating themselves.

Weird that Russia is just now looting and planning for the fall of Tokmak even though the offensive is 3 months old and Tokmak is only like 18 miles from the original frontlines.
If Ukraine keeps making progress in the south, they may end up getting past the defensive lines and into open territory.
It gets tough to defend Tokmak if Ukraine has free reign like that.

What is has exposed is that the vaunted "Military Industrial Complex" is a shell of itself. That kneecapping of it started under Obama.
It started under Clinton. You could even argue H W Bush who cut the military in response to the fall of the Eastern Block, and said, “This much and no more.”
Clinton came to office and cut a lot more, which was probably rational. What we should have done is cut production and new weapons systems, and then spent on R&D.

Reagan to his credit saw the benefits we could capture by breaking the Soviets. He called it the peace dividend.
Unfortunately, we ate up a lot of those benefits protecting ourselves against global terrorism and in Iraq.

Today, the Department of Defense (DoD) announced additional security assistance to meet Ukraine's critical security and defense needs.
The capabilities in this package, valued at up to $175 million, include:
Equipment to support Ukraine's air defense systems;
Additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS);
155mm and 105mm artillery rounds;
81mm mortars systems and rounds;
120mm depleted uranium tank ammunition for Abrams tanks;
Tube-Launched, Optically-Tracked, Wire-Guided (TOW) missiles;
Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems;
Over 3 million rounds of small arms ammunition;
Tactical air navigation systems;
Tactical secure communications systems and support equipment;
Demolitions munitions for obstacle clearing; and
Spare parts, maintenance, and other field equipment.
This security assistance package will utilize assistance previously authorized under Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) for Ukraine that remained after the PDA revaluation process concluded in June.

I think the delay on the Abrams is Logistics. Keeping that turbine fueled and running is a tough job.

Ukraine isn’t even close to taking Tokmak.
They're almost halfway there. The first 1/3 was uphill through the densest minefields on earth outside of the DMZ. Now they're on hill 166 and they can literally see down into Tokmak only 10-12 miles away. And the nastiest defenses are behind them. The push towards Tokmak is picking up steam with 2 months left in the prime fighting season.
You're denying the practical military reality of the situation.

As of Aug. 28 (9 days ago), here are the range coverages of various Ukrainian artillery systems as overlaid on a Geoconfirmed map.

I stand corrected. You are spot on.
