Ukrainian and Russian sources report the Russian defense industrial base (DIB) faces growing challenges in replacing basic supplies in addition to known challenges in rebuilding its stocks of precision weapons.
This is one of Russia’s biggest vulnerabilities in this war. They have mountains of old tanks and various other armored vehicles they can pull out of storage, though even that will tax their logistics system due to spare parts that haven’t been in production for decades. Sure, they’ll be able to cannibalize old tanks to get others up and running. But that solution will only work for a time. And no matter how many tanks they can pull from storage and get into running order, they’ll do no good without sufficient logistics to feed them fuel, ammo, oil, food for the crew, and the myriad of other things only supply officers think of that are needed to keep mechanized forces combat effective. Which leads us to this….
quote:
Russian sources additionally noted that the Russian DIB cannot produce enough rubber to replace worn tires for military equipment vital to frontline operations, and noted that increasing wear on tires will make it difficult for wheeled vehicles to move in muddy, rainy, and icy conditions.[4] The Russian sources claimed that Russian authorities claimed at an unspecified time that they would find solutions to worn tires by mid-August, but the situation has not changed as of September 5.
Funny how history repeats itself. One of the lesser known, but absolutely vital items the US supplied to the Soviets via Lend Lease during WWII was tires. The Soviets then, as the Russians today, could not come close to producing enough tires needed to keep the Red Army mobile. Without American tires, usually running on American trucks, the massive offensives the Soviets launched from mid-1943 to the end of the war would have been impossible.
But this time around, they’re not getting any American tires.

I feel like they'll get tires one way or another. Either from the Chinese or from the open market going through an intermediary country like Uzbekistan or something.

They’ve already tried Chinese tires a year ago.
'Cheap Chinese tyres bought by corrupt officials' may be to blame for Russian trucks and armoured vehicles getting stuck in the mud in Ukraine

One of the memes from early in the war was Russian trucks immobilized by shredded Chinese tires.

Putin has a new history textbook written by his adviser Vladimir Medinsky. According to the new textbook, in 1956, rebellious radicals, former soldiers of fascist Hungary, took up arms and committed a large number of murders. The textbook concludes that it was a mistake for Russians to withdraw from Hungary

INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 07 September 2023
Residents of the Russian-controlled area of Donetsk Oblast in Ukraine are now receiving Russian-language local news bulletins from one of Russia's major broadcast organisations. On 4 September, the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK) opened a Donetsk franchise and commenced broadcasting in the internationally unrecognised Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). Local news bulletins are provided by Russia's Rossiya 1TV Channel and present the Russian view of the war. This is part of Russia's broader effort to assert enduring control of the area.
Ukraine-based Russian language television and radio stations were freely available in the now-annexed areas before 2014. After the invasion, pan-Ukraine providers continued to provide locally sourced Russian-language content. DPR-government-controlled and aligned broadcasters also rebroadcast Russian national news programming as part of a propaganda campaign but did not provide regional bulletins.
Broadcasting VGTRK in Donetsk has taken over a year to achieve, having first been announced in 2022. This was almost certainly due to the refusal to work of trained local technicians. Those sympathetic to the DPR and with the required skills have now likely been brought in from Crimea, Luhansk and elsewhere.
Although blocked over the airwaves, Ukrainian broadcasting is still accessible to a wide audience via the internet. Where Russian filtering restrictions are in force, audiences use VPN or other active circumvention technologies. Mobile phones linked to Ukrainian providers are highly likely unfettered.

Oh I remember, it just seems like that issue was likely overblown since it didn't seem to shut Russia down like what was suggested might happen. Maybe it contributed to Russia's "Goodwill Gesture" when they retreated from around Kyiv. I also remember a thing going around at that time about Russia being unable to get western parts for train wheels or something which was going to cause their rail operations to shutdown. That never came to fruition.
So I'm skeptical about these potential problems for Russia until we see more evidence of them occurring and Russia actually being unable to get replacements.

Another example of horseshoe theory: former member of Congress and Green Party candidate for President Cynthia McKinney asks: How Jewish Is the War Against Russia? And of course she posts a link to that article on a website run by someone who denies the Holocaust.
LINK
In the same week that Putin claimed that Zelensky was put in place as a cover for Ukrainian Nazism, we get more people (this time, on the extreme Left) saying that Zelensky is part of a Jewish conspiracy to attack Russia.
The conspiracy theories are contradictory, of course, but they are similar in being despicable.

The people whining that Europe isn't doing its share to help Ukraine? Y'all can apologize now.
Remember that the UK is not part of the EU. It's by far the largest in the "other" category. If you added it to the EU, then Europe is clearly giving much more than the US.

Assessment by the French on Russia tank stockpile with conclusions.
LINK
To sum it up, there is definitely tension with ability to supply tanks to the front and Russia would likely be at the breaking point should an actual breakthrough occur from Ukraine and break the Russian Army

I posted that previously, but the Russian apologists didn’t accept that Europe is way more concerned with Russia than what they admit.

If they were that concerned they’d have their armies in Ukraine killing Russians

CNN:
Elon Musk secretly shut down Starlink access off the coast of Crimea last year to thwart Ukraine's underwater USV attack on the Russian Navy.
The USVs, filled with explosives, had already approached the Russian fleet, but suddenly "lost contact and harmlessly washed ashore."
Musk's decision, as a result of which Ukrainian officials began to beg him to turn on the satellites again, was caused by an acute fear that Russia would respond to Ukraine's attack on Crimea with nuclear weapons, a fear caused by Musk's conversations with high-ranking officials from Russia.
Former Russian President Medvedev on reports that Elon Musk limited the operation of Starlink to disrupt Kyiv’s attack on the Russian Fleet:
If this is true, he is the last adequate person in North America.
Basically if it's moving more than 100 km/hr and is over water or Russian occupied Ukraine, starlink stops working because Musk was afraid of escalation

A few interesting points:
1) This estimates that Russia only had between 6k - 7k total tanks. Many of them were inactive and only around for parts harvesting.
2) The majority of the ~7k tanks were built before 1980.
3) Corruption was a huge issue, which meant that most of the 7k tanks were severely degraded before they saw combat.
Essentially, Russia has much fewer tanks, in much worse condition.

Very interesting article if true:
““How am I in this war?” Musk asks Isaacson. “Starlink was not meant to be involved in wars. It was so people can watch Netflix and chill and get online for school and do good peaceful things, not drone strikes.”
Twitter is also supposed to be a global town square, Elon. Turns out, when the globe gets together it mostly wants to circulate dick pics and hate the Jews. What can you do.
Now if this is true my guess is Elon’s real motivation here was keeping Russia’s and Tesla’s mutual acquaintance happy.
