Unlike Western Europe, Poland has taken a look at history and is applying the lessons to be learned from it.

Key Takeaways:

Ukrainian forces conducted counteroffensive operations on at least two sectors of the front on August 14 and reportedly advanced in the Donetsk-Zaporizhia Oblast border area.

Crimean occupation authorities are attempting to impose new federal penalties on individuals who publish content revealing the locations and operations of Russian military assets in occupied Crimea, likely in response to Ukraine’s ongoing interdiction campaign.

Russian forces conducted a series of missile and drone strikes targeting Odesa Oblast on the night of August 13 to 14.

The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) likely remains unable to fully take control of some Russian private military companies which are affiliated with or receive sponsorship from Russian officials and businessmen.

US officials announced a new $200 million security assistance package for Ukraine on August 14.

Ukrainian forces conducted offensive operations near Kupyansk, along the Svatove-Kreminna line, near Bakhmut, in the Donetsk-Zaporizhia Oblast border area, and in western Zaporizhia Oblast and advanced near Bakhmut.

Russian forces conducted offensive operations near Kupyansk, along the Svatove-Kreminna line, near Bakhmut, along the Avdiivka-Donetsk City line, in the Donetsk-Zaporizhia Oblast border area, and in western Zaporizhia Oblast and advanced near Kupyansk.

The Russian National Guard (Rosgvardia) continues to form new regiments and appoint prominent Russian ultranationalists to command its units, possibly in an effort to incentivize recruitment.

Russian authorities are removing local officials in occupied territories of Ukraine likely in order to fill openings with preferred candidates in the upcoming regional elections.

No country has gotten fricked over like Poland has in the 20th century. They aren’t letting it happen again. By 2030 their military is going to be on par with the best in the world.

The population losses of Poland in WW2 defy analysis. The agreed range from many sources and studies put the total dead at 5.7 to 6.0 million, which is 20 to 24% of the pre-war population. Over the course of the war, that averages to 3,000 Poles killed per day, every day for five years and seven months.

Those people are not forgotten. Hell, in the Eastern European mindset, they are not even dead yet.

A future problem for NATO could be trying to reign in the Polish military. Given any substantial provocation, the Poles will turn Belarus into a DMZ and won't stop there. What do you do about a Polish army that refuses to end their occupation of Russia?

In that sceanario you can believe that there would be one other country that would keep an exceedingly low profile.

The Ukrainian 47th Mechanized Brigade, which led the assault on the Orikhiv axis (at Robotyne, towards Tokmak) is the unit that lost a number of Bradleys and Leopards on the first day of the war. After that, it struggled with unit cohesion, with its sergeant major asking to be demoted and calling the brigade commander an "amoral degenerate."

After just over two months of fighting, that brigade has been rotated out (presumably with other units fighting in that area), and now the 82nd Air Assault Brigade (which has the Challengers) and the 46th Airmobile Brigade have been rotated in.

So, we now have our first evidence of Stryker and Marder IFVs in action. Ukraine is now basically committing its remaining reserves to the fight.

LINK

It will be interesting to see if these units can make more progress than the 47th did. On the one hand, this is the first combat action for 82nd and the 46th -- they are green. But on the other hand, they have had a LOT more time to train than the 47th had. And the Russian units that they are attacking have been unable to rotate since the start of the offensive and are much weaker than they were at the beginning of June.

I think that the expectation should be that Ukraine will make much faster progress in this sector now. The next couple of weeks will tell the tale.

INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 15 August 2023

In an online post on 10 August 2023, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov acknowledged the efforts of the Chechen Vostok Akhmat Battalion in the heavily contested Orhikiv sector in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

Kadyrov's comments highlighted the continuing role of one of the premier Chechen units in this key area. Vostok officially comes under the command of the Southern Military District's 42nd Motor Rifle Division which has been active around the village of Robotyne.

Chechen forces comprise a relatively small but high-profile component of Russian forces in Ukraine. Kadyrov likely heavily promotes his units' roles partially to burnish his credentials as a Putin loyalist.

I think it’s a considerable problem for the EU as well. I applaud the Poles and they’re doing exactly what they should, but it will disrupt the pecking order in continental Europe.

McBeth hits the nail on the head with his calling out a Russian Bot.

FWIW, I learned in 2014 that a large number of campaign bots were all listed as Western PA. All had Patriot in their names.

Did making that horseshite up make you feel better?

Poland simply does not have the GDP to field what you describe, or does your fantasy involve the US paying for it?

The 82nd Air Assault Brigade is now the best equipped unit in the Ukrainian armed forces. I don’t believe they are green though. Before going to train in the UK on the Challengers they were a one of the units still fighting with the oldest soviet equipment but they were still effective. Now you add in they have Strykers and Marders on top of having several dozen light and mobile M119 105 mm howitzers to support them as they move. They have held this unit back for a reason and I don’t think it’s at all a coincidence that they are just now unleashing it as the 31 M1A1 Abrams are due to arrive in the next few weeks. If they see a weak spot somewhere and want to press it I would want the 82nd air assault and the 93rd Mechanized leading the charge. I also believe it’s the 93rd I saw somewhere that’s due to receive a large quantity of FPV drones soon as well.

How many schools and shelters did Russia hit before they hit the factory?

Please describe in detail how anything I said is bullshite. Have the Poles not gotten screwed by both Stalin and Hitler in WW2 with millions murdered? Have they not ordered hundreds of self propelled artillery, MLRS, aircraft and tanks to replace their outdated soviet equipment? So please do tell me how what I said is horseshite? Does it hurt your feelings knowing Poland can make Putin and Russia their bitch if they chose to Ivan?

Russia already destroyed all the schools, hospitals, retirement homes, orphanages, and pet shelters.

That is just wrong. The dogs and cats of Ukraine are not resisting Russian rule. Why must Vlad the Great punish the innocent?

Planning for the invasion of Europe started in 1942. Failure to prepare is just preparing to fail. Maybe if Vladimer the Great had planned out his 3 day SMO a little more he would have accomplished his goals within 3 days, 3 weeks, or even 3 months.
