How can you honestly want a midget little troll like Putin to succeed in running over another country and destroying it to rubble? Does that make you happy? If so you should go join up for Russia, they are taking anyone with a heartbeat.

What in what I typed makes you assume I am happy about it?

These your people? Tell them to put you in an F-16 so you can go teach Putin a lesson. They're both shite, the faster Russia wins...the faster I can stop funding this against my will.

Americans danced to the sound of bombs over Baghdad, and Iraq didn’t do a damned thing to us. Russians invaded their country, raped and murdered their people, and kidnapped their children.

Do I think that advertisement is in good taste? No, I don’t. Do I find it surprising considering the circumstances? No, I don’t.

Absolutely. The ppl saying that Ukraine has underperformed must have had unrealistic expectations going into. This counteroffensive was never going to be a Desert Storm style battle.

In fairness much of the Pro-Ukrainian information space across all media forms was hyping it up.

Anyone without a broader interest in the strategy and methodology of war who relied on it to provide a coherent picture of the conflict would likely have believed it would be more successful than it has been.

I still think there are a few more twists to this current period of the war from both sides before things bog down later this year.

I think the war has shown us that we are vunerable to small drone warfare.

There is going to be major research and investment in anti drone technology. EW is somewhat effective but it is agnostic and hampers both sides. As drones evolve, they will become more autonomous reducing the effectiveness of EW. What mobile units really need is some type of spot-it, kill-it capability. That doesn't really exist today at the small unit level.

That war was a joke and a big reason why I can't stand our foreign policy, yet here we are getting involved in another conflict that has zero impact on America.

Ukrainians are definitely not a country of 100% virtuous angels. A few months ago, I saw a video of a Ukrainian soldier taking the phone out of the pocket of a Russian that he had just killed, tracing the predictable Z pattern to unlock the phone, quickly flipping through the contacts to find the dead man's wife, and then calling her and laughing in her face as he told her that he'd just killed her husband.

I thought that was terrible. But in this war, it doesn't even register on the outrage meter. Not when the other side has kidnapped 19,000 children. Not when the other side posts videos of their men castrating and even decapitating Ukrainian POWs. Not when the other side has torture chambers set up in every town they occupy. Not when the other side bombs and kills little children almost every day.

Brings to mind the Hunter Killers in the Dune universe.

This conflict has shown just how quickly evolving UV technology is impacting strategic warfare models built up over the last several hundred years.

I see it as potentially having the same impact the advent of efficient elastic, and later gunpowder, ranged weapons had on the close combat era that proceeded it.

I posted something along the line of drones being used as a potent mine clearing or detection force several weeks ago given Ukraine's problems with them and it looks like they are attempting to adapt them to this purpose already.

A counter Russian adaptation will be to thermally cloak their mines somehow likely through a reflective coating.

First picture is a field used for logistics of our vehicles for offensive. You can’t spot anything suspicious here

But in fact - on 2nd picture - it is a deadly 4 row mine field.

During the day in the sunlight, mines get very hot and you can easily spot them with thermal drone

quote:

Based on such images from thermal drones, we analyze and identify safe routes for vehicles for the offensive.

EOD is essential for routing in our type of warfare where everything is mined

Good routing will literally save Ukrainian lives and IFVs

Edit: Clarity

I expect they would do it in a way that doesn't make it sparkle or be visually distinctive from the rest of the ground during the day though I don't know enough about the subject to offer a theory on how.

Good thread from Rob Lee on some of the featured vehicles of the Russia Army's recent 2023 defence expo. Anti drone platforms were prominent by the looks of it.
